In 1988, I spent a day riding around in a limo with the late Gene Clark (Byrds), Randy Meisner (The Eagles) and Rick Roberts (Firefall)... taking them around to radio interviews to promote an upcoming concert. With their consent, I video-taped most of the day with my home camcorder. This priceless video has been sitting in a box since then, only seen by a couple of my friends. Thanks to Youtube... The band is comprised of Flying Burrito Brothers' bassist Chris Ethridge, the then-Steve Miller Band-pianist (and future jazz great) Ben Sidran, organist Michael Utley, and drummer Gary Mallaber. Clark's writing reveals a stark kind of simplicity in his lines. Using melodies mutated out of country, and revealing that he was the original poet and architect of the Byrds' sound on White Light, Clark created a wide open set of tracks that are at once full of space, a rugged gentility, and are harrowingly intimate in places. Less wrecked and ravaged, Clark's song is more a bewildered tome of resignation to a present and future in the abyss. Now this is classic rock.. + Informações

album : The Fantastic Expedition of Dillard & Clark Arranged by VAN DYKE PARKS The banjo is present in the background, the rhythm section is pure pop/rock, not a million miles away from The Byrds. The vocals are heavenly and the lyrics clever and charming. Its a pop song that really should have been a hit - someone should cover it and turn it into one. A wonderfully dreamy song. Gene Clark was the greatest underrated singer/songwriter to emerge from the '60s rock explosion, and deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Neil Young. This album, his debut as a duo with virtuoso banjoist/guitarist Doug Dillard, is perhaps his most brilliant recording. Out of the ashes of the Byrds and a brilliant false start of a solo career (the excellent Echoes album), the 1968 Dillard & Clark project found Clark collecting some of his finest material (basically the entire album) and putting it in the familiar context of bluegrass and country, a good year before these elements became vogue in the pop world. Since it is not possible to upload the original song by Gene Clark 'Full Circle Song' included in his brilliant solo album "Roadmaster" (1973) - the reason is well known - this is the re-recorded version under the title 'Full Circle' appeared in the twelfth album by The Byrds, "Byrds" released in March 1973 on Asylum Records, as a result of a short reunion of this great band of the 60s between the five original members of The Byrds: Roger McGuinn, Gene Clark, David Crosby, Chris Hillman, and Michael Clarke.
