jupiter - the gas giant 0.70 min. | 2.9166667 avaliação | 11989 exibições Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun and the largest planet within the Solar System. It is a gas giant with a mass slightly less than one-thousandth that of the Sun but is two and a half times the mass of all of the other planets in our Solar System combined. Jupiter is classified as a gas giant along with Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Together, these four planets are sometimes referred to as the Jovian planets. The planet was known by astronomers of ancient times and was associated with the mythology and religious beliefs of many cultures. The Romans named the planet after the Roman god Jupiter. When viewed from Earth, Jupiter can reach an apparent magnitude of ?2.8, making it on average the third-brightest object in the night sky after the Moon and Venus. (Mars can briefly exceed Jupiter's brightness at certain points in its orbit.) Jupiter is primarily composed of hydrogen with a quarter of its mass being helium; it may also have a rocky core of heavier elements. Because of its rapid rotation, Jupiter's shape is that of an oblate spheroid (it possesses a slight but noticeable bulge around the equator). The outer atmosphere is visibly segregated into several bands at different latitudes, resulting in turbulence and storms along their interacting boundaries. A prominent result is the Great Red Spot, a giant storm that is known to have existed since at least the 17th century when it was first seen by telescope. Surrounding the planet is a faint planetary ring system .... + Informações |

Stellar Simulations: searching for habitable planets 56.32 min. | 4.857143 avaliação | 1960 exibições Google Tech talks July 30, 2007 ABSTRACT Looking for a nice extra-solar vacation spot but worried about being downwind from a gas giant? Before booking your next interstellar flight, come check out how Sean Raymond's stellar simulations are being used in the search for habitable planets. Many of the 240 extra-solar planets that have been discovered so far are "hot Jupiters" -- gas giants orbiting very close to their host stars. Sean's work has shown that when these hot Jupiters form far from their host stars and migrate inward, they leave conditions in their wake favorable for the formation of a wide diversity of habitable planets, from small dry worlds to massive ocean-covered planets. Jupiter Gets The Measles 10.97 min. | 4.9614606 avaliação | 6708 exibições www.facebook.com ... Hubble's Universe Unfiltered (Episode 4): Jupiter Gets The Meases. --- Please SUBSCRIBE to Science & Reason: ? www.youtube.com ? www.youtube.com ? www.youtube.com --- The most prominent feature on the planet Jupiter is a large, ruddy oval that is simply called the Great Red Spot (GRS). The GRS is a giant storm in Jupiter's atmosphere that has been remarkably stable. In fact, it may have been observed as early as the 1660s. During the intervening centuries, the GRS was not just the largest, but also the only red spot ever seen on Jupiter. That situation changed when a formerly white storm turned brown in late 2005, and then red in early 2006. And yet another red spot appeared in spring 2008. After such consistency for hundreds of years, Jupiter appears to be breaking out in red spots. Join us for a look at this historic case of planetary measles. ? hubblesite.org --- Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun and the largest planet within the Solar System. Imminent Mega Quake for USA - America's by Russian Institute and USGS geologist -mar 2011 5.02 min. | 4.6923075 avaliação | 8277 exibições A new report released today in the Kremlin prepared for Prime Minister Putin by the Institute of Physics of the Earth, in Moscow, is warning that the America's are in danger of suffering a mega-quake of catastrophic proportions during the next fortnight (14 days) with a specific emphasis being placed on the United States, Mexico, Central America and South American west coast regions along with the New Madrid Fault Zone region. This report further warns that catastrophic earthquakes in Asia and the sub-continent are, also, "more than likely to occur" with the 7.3 magnitude quake in Japan today being "one of at least 4 of this intensity" to occur during this same time period. Raising the concerns of a mega-quake occurring, this report says, are the increasing subtle electromagnetic signals that are being detected in the Earth's upper atmosphere over many regions of the World, with the most intense being over the US Western coastal and Midwest regions. Important to note are that Russian and British scientists are at the forefront of predicting earthquakes based on these subtle electromagnetic signals and have joined in an effort to put satellites in space to detect more of them. More ominously in this report are Russian scientists confirming the independent analysis of New Zealand mathematician and long-range weather forecaster, Ken Ring, who predicted the deadly Christchurch quake and this week issued another warning of a quake to hit on or about March 20th. Ring explains .... + Informações |
