Rita Reys - Frederick K. Hollander, Ralph Freed/ You Leave Me Breathless 3.27 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 1276 exibições Rita Reys started her career over six decades ago, and has played with legends like Dizzy Gillespie, Johnny Griffin, Chico Hamilton, Jimmy Smith, Zoot Sims, Burt Bacharach, Milt Hinton etc. But above all, she herself has proved untill this very day to be one of the best jazz vocalists in the world. In 1960 she officially became Europe's First Lady of Jazz, at the international jazzfestival of Juan Les Pins (France). But her international break through was already a few years earlier, when in New York she recorded an album with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers: The Cool Voice of Rita Reys. Since then she performed at all the great jazz stages, like the New Orleans Jazzfestival, New York's Village Vanguard and London's Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club. In 1991 the United States Embassy in The Hague honoured her with the American Songbook Award. In 2006 she was the first Dutch jazz artist, after ao Tony Bennett and Herbie Hancock, to win the Edison Oeuvre Award. The jury praised her as "with no doubt the greatest jazz singer our country has brought forth".. + Informações |

Hans Conreid "Dr. T's Do-Re-Mi" Frederick Hollander "5000 Fingers of Dr. T" Cleaned 2.67 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 313 exibições Hans Conreid (with some dubbed help on the last note?) singing "Dr. T.'s Do-Re-Mi", cut from the score and film of the Dr. Seuss conceived cult musical "The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T.". Part of an extensive score by Frederick Hollander (with lyrics mostly by Seuss), a child prodigy composer - very like Korngold - who grew up to write cabaret and film scores and songs ("Falling In Love Again" for Marlene Dietrich), most of which was cut from the final film for time. A beautiful 3 CD set of most (but not all - some of it is still lost) of the complete score, alternate versions, demos and karaoke is out, with much involvement by Michael Feinstein. Most of the material was taken from reference acetates, which sound better than the actual film soundtrack but noisy, and as usual they cleaned a lot of it but not all (in the name of maintaining the sound ambiance). I recleaned this, removing noise without I think 'sterilizing' it; from Tormented Artist Ink Studios (me, John Ellis). Most of Hollander's best material was cut, including this, Dr. T's signature song. The entire thing, including a concerto the boy imagines at the beginning, is a revelation even if you know the film well. Apparently all the cut footage is lost. A pity as there was obviously a better, richer film there; sounds like producer Kramer should have said, "Fritz, I can give you three minutes here - and...". The final cut of the film completely rearranges everything and throws out the bulk of the score in the .... + Informações |

He received four Academy Award nominations for composition . In 1956 he returned to Germany, and died in Munich in 1976. --------------------------- The WEINTRAUBS SYNCOPATORS was one of Germany's most famous Jazz bands and their music perhaps best expressed that effervescent joy of life and spirit of arts that typified 1920's Berlin. In the popular speech of the day, names were often shortened. So that, for example, "Lanigiro's Syncopating Melody Kings" were simply referred to as "The Lanigiros". And, so too, "The Weintraub Syncopators" were known simply as 'The Weintraubs". In 1933, Die Weintraubs were on an international concert tour when the Nazi's seized power. With the majority of the band members being Jews, Stefan Weintraub decided not to return to Germany. Thus started a long successful musical Odyssey that took them from .... + Informações |

Friedrich Hollaenders Tingel Tangel 3.98 min. | 0 avaliação | 8 exibições Friedrich Hollaenders Tingel Tangel Buch/Regie: James Edward Lyons Musik. Ltg.
