Danny Boy - King' Singers in SLC 2002 3.73 min. | 4.9496403 avaliação | 61369 exibições This was one of President Gordon B. Hinckley's (1910-2008) favorite songs and I learned to love it, too. Beautifully performed by the King' Singers during the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics Cultural Olympiad Concerts. "Oh Danny Boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling From glen to glen, and down the mountainside. The summer's gone, and all the flowers are dying. 'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide. But come ye back when summer's in the meadow Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow, 'Tis I'll be there in sunshine or in shadow. Oh Danny Boy, Oh Danny Boy, I love you so. But if ye come, and all the flowers are dying And I am dead, as dead I well may be. Ye'll come and find the place where I am lying And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me. And I shall hear, though soft you tread above me, And all my dreams will warmer, sweeter be, And you'll not fail to tell me that you love me, I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me." Clarence Whitehill - "Nancy Lee" (1916) 2.83 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 1048 exibições Nancy Lee Words by Fred E Weatherly Music by Stephen Adams (Michael Maybrick) Performed by Clarence Whitehill Recorded May 24, 1916 Victrola 64613 Clarence Whitehill (1871 - 1932) was a leading American bass-baritone. He sang on both sides of the Atlantic and is best remembered for his association with the music dramas of Richard Wagner. Whitehill was notable for the tonal beauty of his large voice, the nobility of his singing style and the dignity of his stage demeanour. His diction, phrasing and enunciation were considered to be exemplary, too, while his interpretations were said to have a poignant intensity which set them apart from those of his contemporaries. Fortunately, Whitehill made a number of gramophone records prior to World War One which display something of his greatness as a Wagnerian singer. Whitehill made his Metropolitan Opera debut on November 25, 1909. He would enjoy a long and praiseworthy career at the Met despite a throat ailment which periodically affected one of his vocal cords. He was to remain on the Met's roster of singers until 1932, the year of his death. The music to Nancy Lee was written by Michael Maybrick, who published under the name Stephen Adams. He was born in Liverpool in 1844. He completed his music studies there and moved to Leipzig and Milan to study further. He became a well known baritone singer. His first appearance was in the New Philharmonic Concerts in London in 1870. His tunes were popular in both England and America. Nancy .... + Informações |

Danny Boy 3.70 min. | 4.7647057 avaliação | 5957 exibições Here's another Eva rendition cover! One of my faves - of course, most of them are my faves. The words for this song were written by English songsmith Fred E. Weatherly in the early 20th century. The original recording of this song was by Ernestine Schumann-Heink in 1918. Oh Danny boy the pipes the pipes are calling From glen to glen and down the mountain side The summer's gone and all the flowers dying 'Tis you 'tis you must go and I must bide But come ye back when summer's in the meadow Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow 'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow Oh Danny boy oh Danny boy I love you so But when ye come and all the roses falling And I am dead as dead I well may be Go out and find the place where I am lying And kneel and say an ave there for me And I will hear tho' soft you tread above me And then my grave will warm and sweeter be For you shall bend and tell me that you love me And I will sleep in peace until you come to me. + Informações |

Guitar: Danny Boy 4.52 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 2846 exibições Probably one of the best known of Irish songs, the words were written by Mr Fred E Weatherly to a traditional tune known as 'The Londonderry Aire'. Not the easiest of songs to pitch as it has a very wide range, and the top note is difficult to reach for my voice. The intro I picked up from the singing of an Irish singer called Rory Kilduff whose sister Tracy I worked with a number of years ago.. + Informações |

Deanna Durbin - Danny Boy 3.95 min. | 4.9475136 avaliação | 505821 exibições Performer - Deanna Durbin Lyrics - Frederick Weatherly The famous ballad "Danny Boy", ironically, was written by a man who never set foot in Ireland. Weatherly, an English barrister who was also a prolific poet, had originally set "Danny Boy" to music he had composed. The song was not successful. When he heard the "Londonderry Air", he realized that "Danny Boy" would fit nicely to that tune. Over 100 songs have been set to "Londonderry Air", but "Danny Boy" is the most famous. Band and orchestral musicians will also recognize the tune as Grainger's "Irish Tune from County Derry". Oh, Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling, From glen to glen and down the mountain side; The summer's gone, and all the roses falling; It's you, it's you must go, and I must bide. But come ye back when summer's in the meadow, Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow; I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow; Danny boy, Oh Danny boy, I love you so. But if ye come and all the flowers are dying, If I am dead, as dead I well may be. Ye'll come and find the place where I am lying, And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me. And I will know, 'though soft ye tread around me, And then my grave shall richer sweeter be, Then you'll bend down and tell me that you love me, And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me.. + Informações |

Aafje Heynis sings Londonderry Air 2.93 min. | 0 avaliação | 6099 exibições Dutch contralto Aafje Heynis Irish folk song Londonderry Danny Boy..............................................Old English Tune/Fred Weatherly Danny Boy is one of over 100 songs composed to the same tune. The author attributed to its lyrics is an English lawyer, Fred Weatherly, who was also a songwriter and radio entertainer. In 1910, he wrote the words and music for an unsuccessful song her called Danny Boy and then he revised it again in 1911. Then, in 1912, a sister-in-law sent him a tune called the Londonderry Air (aka Air from County Derry) of which he had never heard before. He noticed that the melody was a near perfect fit with his words of Danny Boy and he again revised it and published the new version of the song in 1913. There has been no account of Weatherly setting foot in Ireland, but the Irish came to Colorado where his sister-in-law was and they played the tune. His sister then obtained a copy of the music and that is what she sent to Weatherly. As the tune grew in popularity, traditional Irish music came to be researched more thoroughly. Some agree that the tune to Danny Boy is true to Irish folk songs and some do not agree. There is a song called Aisling an Ogfhir, an Irish folk-song (The Young Man's Dream) that bears a striking resemblance to the tune of Danny Boy. Could this be the original? No one exactly knows since there has also been an English version of The Young Man's Dream found in Scotland as well. If the text to Aisling an Ogfhir is .... + Informações |

601. Danny Boy (Frederick Weatherly) 3.23 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 2489 exibições Probably the best known Irish song of all, though it was actually written by an Englishman! The lyrics were originally written to a different tune by Frederick Weatherly, an English lawyer, but, when his sister sent him a copy of the lovely Irish tune "Londonderry Air", he modified them to fit the melody. The first recording was made by Ernestine Schumann-Heink in 1915, but it was Elsie Griffin who popularised it early in the nineteenth century. Though the song was written as a message from a woman to a man it is sung by men at least as often as by women. Weatherly did actually adapt it to be sung by a male, by changing "Danny boy" to "Elly dear" in his 1918 authorised lyrics. I have rarely sung this song in public. The only time I sang it to an audience was about 40 years ago when I performed as part of a church group at the Melbourne City Mission to several homeless people. I've never forgotten the enthusiastic reaction I received. They loved it! (It was my visit to this place that inspired my song "In Lonely Melbourne.")
