JAM BAND is geschreven en opgenomen in de winter van 2000 in een open stal in Koewacht België die ik Le Bateau Espagnol noemde. Meer dan een dak boven het hoofd kon je het niet noemen. In de zomer vlogen vleermuizen binnen en buiten, maar in de winter regende en sneeuwde het binnen. Geëquipeerd met een 8-sporen opnameapparaat en een microfoon van bedenkelijke kwaliteit werkte ik van 's ochtends tot 's avonds aan materiaal dat mij eindelijk muzikaal op de kaart moest zetten. Er was geen verwarming dus ik was ingeduffeld in een winterjas, droeg handschoenen en een muts. Er zijn betere omstandigheden om een plaat op te nemen. Maar ik had geen reden tot klagen. Ik had eindelijk na veel zessen en vijven een platenfirma kunnen strikken. Nico Mertens van het legendarische kleinkunst en blueslabel PARSIFAL had mij in de zomer zien optreden tijdens mijn booze & fun toer doorheen cafés met non-begeleidingsgroep De Prozac Broers. Hij had één of twee songs gehoord waarin hij geloofde dat ze de radio konden halen. Deze Prozac-songs waren geschreven in een vlaag van euforie na een writers block van meer dan een jaar en blaakten van de goesting. Nico Mertens van Parsifal is een van de fijnste mensen is die ik tijdens mijn muziekmakerij heb leren kennen. Wellicht omdat hij net als ik een buitenbeetje was in het muziekwereldje. He's a treasure! Tegen de tijd dat de plannen voor een eerste plaat bij Parsifal vorm kregen, had ik de Prozac-songs al achter mij gelaten. Eens de grap verteld is .... + Informações

DE LEGENDE VAN FJG & DE STOFHONDEN Winter 1993 ontmoette ik twee jonge leeuwen Jan Bekaert en Filip De Malssche. Ze maakten als gitaarduo muziek onder de naam 'The Dogs of Dust' en zochten een manier om hun songs op te nemen. De "home studio" waarmee ik in die jaren mijn werk opnam was niet meer dan een mengpaneel, een aftandse bandopnemer en een paar bedenkelijke microfoons maar het was gratis. Al vlug begeleidden ze me op mijn songs. Hoewel geen van beiden virtuozen waren gaf het een nieuwe impuls aan mijn songschrijverij. Ik had op dat moment geen enkele interesse in de wereld. Hoewel ik keihard werkte aan songs was ambitie mij totaal vreemd. Het was in mijn ogen meewerken aan het systeem van maatschappelijke slavernij. Wat niet spontaan kwam liet ik liggen. Geen haar aan mijn kop dacht eraan om mijn muziek te promoten. Ik was bezeten door een hoogromantische zoektocht naar de Grote Liefde die alle wereldse zaken -- ook muziek - overbodig zou maken. We speelden her en der als 'FJG en De Stofhonden' en kregen positieve respons. Het Sombeekse artistieke café 'De Verwondering' werd onze uitvalbasis. Daar kwamen we de all round creatieveling/drummer Bart Van Acker tegen en lijfden hem in. Op die manier hadden we een band met klassieke bezetting op de been. We maakten veel muziek, dronken en rookten veel, maakten plannen die uit weltsmerz nooit gerealiseerd werden en sliepen weinig. De band zou compleet worden met Steven Stas op french horn. "Orlando Paladino", written in 1782, was easily Haydn's most famous opera during his lifetime, with thirty performances in Esterhaza in the first two years after its composition and productions in most of Austria and Germany as well. It was originally composed to celebrate the visit of a Russian grand duke to the Esterhaza court but when that visit was canceled, the opera instead received its' premiere on Prince Esterhazy's name day. The libretto, a "drama eroicomico", gives scope to Haydn's frequently puckish sense of humor, as well as for his inventive melodic expression. Most semi-serious operas of the period typically inserted comic characters into an essentially serious story but Haydn expanded the comedy even into the more serious scenes, scenes that previous composers (Handel, Vivaldi and Haydn himself) had taken more seriously. Orlando (tenor), a nephew of Charlemagne, falls in love with the Chinese princess Angelica (soprano), who rejects his advances because she has lost her heart to Medoro (tenor), a simple knight. As a result of this rebuff, madness takes the slighted lover, and he aims to kill the young sweethearts. Additional confusion is caused by the permanently hungry squire of Orlando, Pasquale (bass), the saucy shepherdess Eurilla (soprano), who flirts with the former, and the burly King of Barbary, Rodomonte (bass), whose only desire is to kill Orlando to protect the lovers. This extract from Haydn's great sacred oratorio 'The Creation' was recorded during St Peter's Singers' lunchtime recital given on 28th October 2009 in the beautiful Basilica de Sant Francesc, Palma de Mallorca. The recital formed part of the choir's acclaimed concert tour of Mallorca. The conductor is Dr Simon Lindley, the Singers' Music Director since the choir's formation in 1977. The organist is David Houlder, Sub-Organist of Leeds Parish Church and the Singers' regular accompanist. Solo Bass In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. We were called with John Taficuk to New Zealand west coast by NZ Alpine Club to repair broken double glazed windows at Pioneer and Centennial Huts. The plan was to fly to the first one, Pioneer hut, replace broken units and fly to Centennial, but the wind, which was too strong, made landing by the other hut impossible. So we flew back down to Franz Joseph village and gave it another try next day. But there was a guy doing hut inspection, so I could fly up there again :( But brave man from Department of Conservation, Rod Barker, made the video for us (after a long briefing in the pub) and he did really good job, especially the "toilet shot"!
