CARSON J. ROBISON & FRANK LUTHER: STEAMBOAT (KEEP ROCKIN) 3.77 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 447 exibições When I bought this record it was mainly because of the less than common Domino label. When I, at a record fair a couple of years ago, happily was able to buy Brian Rusts legendary book The American Record Label Book, its been one of my most eagerly read books (for discographical research of course). And that very same book tells us that Domino was around between 1924-1933, and this record was recorded June 7, 1928. Carson Robison (1890-1957) was an American country singer and song writer. He also collaborated with the big country star of the time, Vernon Dalhart, and Robison is accompanying Dalhart on the legendary recording The Wreck of the Old 97 country musics first million seller. He also wrote the lyrics to the famous song Barnacle Bill the sailor. He teamed up with fellow country singer and songwriter Frank Luther (1899-1980) between 1928-31, and they made this novelty hillbilly song Steamboat in the beginning of their collaboration. Its a fun record even though I think the person whos task it was to blow the steam horn was a bit too fond of his task. Theres a bit too much blowing here, to say the least but otherwise I like this recording.. + Informações |

Carson Robison & Frank Luther perform the song - The Railroad Boomer written by Carson Robison 3.03 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 184 exibições Carson Robison and Frank Luther perform the Railroad Boomer Vocal duet with steel guitar, guitar, coronet, clarinets and effects. Brunswick 78 rpm circa 1930's The picture is an original promotional picture that Roy Rogers used to hand out at his shows. This one was from the Pacific Northwest Exhibition (PNE) in British Columbia, Canada. I got it there from him in 1969 when my uncle brought me to see Roy's cowboy show.Years before I started working at the (now defunct) book & record store, I used to visit there as often as I could. On one occasion I met the man who was running the bookstore at that time. During our conversation I had asked about 78 rpm records, he said that he had many upstairs but no one goes up there without his consent. That seemed to be that....until one day he approaches with a proposition, I go through his mess of 78's, straighten it up so that he could present his collection to buyers and I get a deal on any 78's that I might want...except I was to give him all of the SUN label records. I accepted with the understanding that if he was selling any of his SUN records that I would have a chance at them once he had them appraised. Well, I found several and he never offered one back....he just sold them off. I used to spend hours in a dusty/musty dark room (upstairs of the record store, before & during the time i worked there) going through thousands trying to guess which one is worth the effort... you have to, there was literally thousands waiting to .... + Informações |

Carson Robison Will the Angels Play Their Harps for Me? with lyrics 3.05 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 1617 exibições From Nov 28, 1928... A sentimental but lovely old-time song by "America's first cowboy radio singer", Carson J. Robison. This is the B side of Wreck of the Vestris. I was passing by a churchyard in the city And I saw a beggar old and grey With his hands outstretched he asked the folks for pity And it made me sad to hear him say Oh I wonder yes I wonder will the angels way up yonder Will the angels play their harps for me? For my heart is growing dreary and my feet are growing weary Will the angels play their harps for me? Oh a million miles I've traveled And a million sights I've seen And I'm ready for the glory soon to be Oh I wonder yes I wonder will the angels way up yonder Will the angels play their harps for me? Will I ride up to the pearly gates in glory In a chariot of shining gold Will I see the folks who went up there before me When I'm safely gathered in the fold Oh I wonder yes I wonder will the angels way up yonder Will the angels play their harps for me? For my heart is growing dreary and my feet are growing weary Will the angels play their harps for me? Oh a million miles I've traveled And a million sights I've seen And I'm ready for the glory soon to be Oh I wonder yes I wonder will the angels way up yonder Will the angels play their harps for me? From the mid-1920s through 1928 Robison collaborated as a songwriter and musician with Vernon Dalhart. In 1928 Robison formed the Carson Robison Trio, with Frank Luther and Phil Crow. (This record.) Robison worked .... + Informações |

78s - The Butcher Boy - Frank Luther 3.22 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 1171 exibições Born Francis Luther Crow on a farm near Lakin, Kansas, forty miles from the Colorado line, he was raised on a farm near Hutchinson, Kansas, where his father, William R. Crow, and mother, Gertrude Phillips Crow, dealt in livestock and trotting horses. He began to study piano at age 6, improvising his own music when repetitious exercises bored him, and began vocal instruction at 13. Three years later, he toured the Midwest as tenor with a quartet called The Meistersingers. He began studying at the University of Kansas, but attended a revival meeting conducted by Jesse Kellems and was so deeply impressed that he accepted an offer from the evangelist to become his musical director. During a subsequent stop in Iola, Kansas, young Crow himself was ordained, despite his never having studied for the ministry. By 1921, the Reverend Francis Luther Crow was in the pulpit of the First Christian Church in Bakersfield, California. There, he organized a 30-voice children's choir, an 80-voice adult choir, and two church orchestras. Writing and delivering his weekly sermons proved more problematic, and the Boy Preacher, as he was known locally, resigned to devote his creative energies to the world of music. Returning to Kansas, he married vocalist/musician Zora Layman on May 8, 1920, and the young couple eventually worked their way to New York City. In 1926, he was seriously pursuing further vocal training when he was invited to join the DeReszke Singers, as tenor/accompanist. They .... + Informações |
