Frank learned to yodel listening to Hank Snow records in his youth in Australia, and then put it to good use later on with a string of hits including this his biggest, "I Remember You", which topped the charts in the UK and went to #5 in September of 1962 in the US The song itself was composed by Victor Schertzinger with lyrics by Johnny Mercer and introduced in the 1942 film, "The Fleet's In", where it was first sung by Dorothy Lamour backed by the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra. One of Frank's many hits featuring his excellent yodeling. A LITTLE BACKGROUND FOR THIS SONG: "Swiss Maid" had been written and recorded successfully by country humorist Roger Miller, who was not a yodeler, and when Miller met Frank he wanted to know why Frank hadn't recorded it! The song had been covered with resounding success by Del Shannon. Although a competent yodeler in his own right, Shannon had not yodeled the song so the way was still open for Frank to score another "first". And score it did -- Frank added the song into his stage show and it immediately became a highlight. He performed the song with similar arrangement to previous versions until the end of the song, where he added a Swiss-style "oompah" band to which he yodeled an authentic Bavarian style (not Swiss) yodel. At the end of the song he would gather the microphone cable into a lasso and swirl it above his head as he yodeled. A LITTLE BACKGROUND FOR THIS SONG: One of Frank's many appearances on American television. He performs "From Out Of Nowhere" and "She Taught Me How To Yodel". As usual he is performing to a full house. "She Taught Me How To Yodel" was one of the songs Frank did during a Royal performance. He was asked to perform for the Queen and her family and he was reported to be the Queen Mum's most favorite singer. Frank learned that the Queen Mum was very anxious to hear him yodel. He had not planned any specific yodeling number at the time but, after he heard about the Queen Mum's wishes, he selected this one especially for her. She was delighted.. + Informações

Here is a very good song, showcasing the vocal artistry of the great singer Frank Ifield. Frank Ifield (born in 1937) is an Australian/English country music singer. He was born in Coventry, England and moved with his Australian parents to Dural, 30 miles from Sydney, in about 1946. It was a rural district and he listened to Hillbilly music (now called Country) while milking the cows. He learned how to yodel in imitation of country stars like Hank Snow. At the age of 13 he recorded "Did You See My Daddy Over There?", and by the age of 19 was the number one recording star in Australia and New Zealand. He returned to the UK in 1959. He first record in Britain was "Lucky Devil" (1960) which only got to number 22. His next six records were less successful, but he finally broke through with "I Remember You" in 1962. It has been said this was the first record to sell one million copies within the UK alone. His next single was a double A-side: "Lovesick Blues" (originally sung by Hank Williams) and "She Taught Me How To Yodel", a virtuoso piece of yodelling with the final verse sung at double-speed. His next hit, "Wayward Wind", made him the first person to reach number one three times in succession. In 1963 he had a hit with "I Remember You" and sang at the Grand Ole Opry, introduced by one of his heroes, Hank Snow. So, this is a video I had to create from scratch. It is a beautiful song and Frank gives it his usual fantastic vocal presentation. Over the past years, I have received many other requests for this song by Frank from people around the world. One couple used this record for their wedding ceremony.
