Frank Bridge (1879-1941) Lament for piano, arranged for string orchestra (1915) English String Orchestra conducted by William Boughton Frank Bridge's early works follow in the late-Romantic tradition of Brahms; but then, partly triggered by his abhorrence of the horrors of the First World War, his music became troubled, intense and chromatic until it rubbed shoulders with the European avant-garde, such as Berg. This later style is foreshadowed by the short Lament for strings composed in a day in response to a tragic victim of the war. Frank Bridge (1879-1941) (GB) Summer, symphonic poem (1914) Dir : Richard Hickox Frank Bridge gagna sa vie comme altiste et professeur de composition et, parmi ses meilleurs élèves, eut Benjamin Britten qui lui rendit hommage avec ses « Variations sur un thème de Frank Bridge » (1937). Mais sa véritable vocation resta la création. Nous lui devons l'une des plus belles ?uvres orchestrales inspirées par la mer : « The Sea » (1911) que l'on peut écouter sur collectionCB. Sa musique, profondément romantique, est souvent parcourue d'accents expressionnistes qui lui apportent une modernité proche de celle de Maurice Ravel ou d'Alexander Scriabine dont il aimait les ?uvres.
