Michael JARY (Maksymilian Micha? Jarczyk) was born in 1906 to the Polish family in Siemianowice ?l?skie(Upper Silesia, Poland -- the territory occupied by Germany until the Ist WW). After completing his education in the Conservatory in Katowice, he was employed as a second conductor in the Theatre Orchestra in Nysa (Neisse), but he gave up his job to continue education in the elitary Musikhochschule in Berlin. He studied composition under direction of Franz Schreker, Paul Hindemith, Arnold Schönberg and Igor Strawinsky. But soon after his diploma concert, in February 1933 the young composer was classified as ?a Polish Jew" and his works were banned. Under a pseudonim Michael Jary he started the new life, as a pianist performing in the clubs and a composer of popular hits. One of his songs the vedette of the Third Reich, Hilde Hildebrandt included into her repertoire. For Micha? Jarczyk it meant the beginning of the great career. As the leader of Michael Jary Tanz-Orchester he recorded thousands of sides. He was a label name for Odeon, where he recorded with the most famous film stars and singers: Rudi Schuricke, Zarah Leander and dozens of others. His enormous popularity as well as environment of the leading personae in the cultural life of the Third Reich, made the Propaganda Minister Goebbels ?forget" about his ?incorrect" descent. In 1920s Glahé worked as a pianist in various Cologne cafes and silent movie cinemas while studying at the Cologne Conservatory. In 1929, in Berlin, he became the pianist in the famous Dajos Béla dance orchestra. In 1932, he formed his own orchestra for a residency at the Delphi Palace and from the turn of 1935/36 he started his contract with Haus Vaterland Tanz-Palast. His orchestra ( Will Glahé Tanz-Orchester, or Will Glahé Harmonika-Orchester) has since recorded hundreds of sides, mostly for Electrola and Columbia labels. Curiously, he is better known as an accordionist and not as a pianist. Among hundreds of popular songs he performed, his greatest hit remains the million-seller ?Rosamunde" (Beer Barrell Polka) (1938) -- the song written in 1934 as "Skoda Lasky" ("Lost Love") by Czech writers Jaromir Vojvoda and Vasek Zeman. Tal Henry & His North Carolinians - Found My Gal, Victor 1928 NOTE: Tal HENRY (1898 1967) was an American musician, director of his North Carolinians Orchestra. In early 1919, he began playing with the Frank Hood band and made his home in Greensboro, North Carolina. In 1924 Tal Henry took over the band and formed the Tal Henry and His North Carolinians Orchestra where he played in the OHenry Hotel in Greensboro. The orchestra moved north to Washington, Pennsylvania playing the dances and events at the Washington Hotel. Soon, the orchestra became famous nationally, and was very busy with contracts. The band performed all across the United States. Some of the many famous venues they visited include the New Yorker Hotel, Roseland Ballroom, Hershey Park Hotel, Steel Pier in Atlantic City, and Madison Square Garden as well as Washington, DC to perform for Franklin D.
