Mors Syphilitica is a Gothic rock/Ethereal band formed in 1995 in New York City by Lisa Hammer (née Houle) and Eric Hammer after the breakup of Requiem in White. Their music combines often-surreal lyrics with unusual instruments such as the mandolin and banjo, as well more conventional instruments such as the guitar. Lisa's operatic vocals give Mors Syphilitica's music a distinctive powerful, sweeping quality. On record, all of the instruments were played by Eric; while live, they were accompanied by live drum and bass players. Their first EP, which was released on Sacrum Torch, had a very limited release of 300 copies, and proved a great success. Their subsequent recordings were distributed at first by Sacrum Torch, then were picked up by Projekt Records for their last album, which gave Mors Syphilitica access to a much wider audience. In light of the 20 centuries of rejection and persecution in Europe and Eastern Europe by those who identified themselves as followers of Christ, most modern Jews do not see how the sufferings of Christ has anything to do at all with their historical suffering. They tend to place Christ and his followers in an adversarial role, viewed almost as the catalyst that helped to break their spirits, so as to make them more vulnerable to being victimized by the Holocaust. This viewpoint, considering the historical circumstances, is to be expected. However, One artist named Rick Weineke who lives in a city in the Negev has done just that. He has created a sculpture 60 feet wide and 12 feet tall, called the Fountain of Tears. The sculpture shows how, through the course of suffering His own execution, Christ is able to identify and empathize with his Jewish brothers and sisters who suffered during the Holocaust.. + Informações

Pushkin began creating "The Fountain of Bakhchisaray" in the spring of 1821, after having visited The Fountain of Tears at the Khan Palace in Bakhchisaray in 1820[1]. The bulk of the poem was written during 1822. In spring 1823, the entry draft was completed. During the autumn of 1823, the poem received its final finishing and was prepared for printing. The first edition of "The Fountain of Bakhchisaray" was published March 10, 1824. In 1909-1910, a short film based on the poem was created by Yakov Protazanov. Volgograd is a beautiful city,it was almost totally destroyed during the battle of Stalingrad (the cities previous name) in 1942/43. The battle lasted for 200days and was one of the turning points of WW2. Mamayev Kurgan and the Panorama museum tell the story of those 200days.From the bottom to the top of the hill are 200steps but if you you are unable to climb the steps there is vehicle access at the rear with a short level walk to the statue of Mother Russia, you can then descend past the statues and lakes of tears to the bottom. It is a very moving experience. The Panorama museum is also worth a visit and has special exhibits such as Vasili Zaitsevs rifle and the sword of Stalingrad. Throughout the city are other places of rememberance and interest. One sad omission is the fountain of children dancing around a crocodile, it was modelled on a poem by Corny Chukovskiy called 'children don't go walking in Africa'. It once stood infront of the railway station but was removed and never replaced when the area was rebuilt......The label of Gen. Gregori Chuikov should read Gen. Vasili Gregorovich Chuikov....Sorry for the wobbles, I think I need a tripod.. + Informações
