In this video instructors Chris Collier & Nate DeMarse demonstrate conventional forcible entry techniques for outward opening doors. At first glance this door appears to be only locked by a key in the knob lock. The halligan is set approximately 6" above the knob but when the door is pried it becomes obvious that there are other locking devices in place. If you are prepared for, and expect auxiliary locking devices you will easily overcome them when they are encountered. In this case, there were FIVE locking devices securing the door. They are listed below from the bottom to the top: - A foot-bolt (slide-bolt) that secured into the floor - A vertical dead-bolt below the knob - Key-in-the-knob lock - Slide-bolt just above the knob (4 screw holes, lock fell off) - Slide-bolt a few inches above the last lock shown in the video All FIVE of these locks were forced in approximately a minute. Had this key in the knob lock been a panic hardware device firefighters attempting the "framing square" technique would have been defeated and had to return to conventional forcible entry. Fire service tools have been invented and modified over the years. A few were intended for fire service application and others were borrowed from other trades. Many fire service tool adoptions and adaptions are worthwhile and useful. Instructors Chris Collier and Nate DeMarse demonstrate the use of through-the-lock techniques with a Rex Tool, but in this video Through-the-Lock techniques fail. Having a systematic plan-of-attack for forcible entry operations will cause you to immediately revert to another option when "Plan A" doesn't work or isn't working in a timely manner. Chris attempts to manipulate the lock with no success. After a few attempts, Chris and Nate revert to conventional forcible entry operations on an outward swinging door to complete the forcible entry operation. Once again, the entire video is only 1min 14sec in duration (including title and exit pages). The conventional forcible entry operation is started at approximately the :40 second mark in the video, and only takes approximately 30 seconds to force the outward opening door with a mortise lock. Stay away from the "whiz-bang, new techniques" that are out there, and more coming every day. This forcible entry evolution has been in our business for almost 60 years, and works EVERY TIME. There is NO NEED to reinvent or change techniques that work EVERY TIME to techniques that are VERY LIMITED in scope (power saw/framing square technique for panic hardware for example). The techniques shown here will force panic hardware VERY EFFICIENTLY, and much quicker than plunge cutting and trying to locate a framing square. In China, forced evictions are a heated issue. Local authorities and companies often collude to force people off their land to make way for new development. And if you're evicted in China, there's often no way get fair compensation. Our reporter spoke with two victims of forced eviction who are protesting outside the United Nations building in New York. A local real estate developer in Wuhan wanted to use his land to build a park, but Mr. Chen didn't agree. So the company forced him out of him home?and then demolished it. It's known as forced eviction, and in China, it's one of the most serious problems facing the country today. Developers, often working with local officials, have rushed to cash in on a real estate boom. Often, it involves driving residents off desirable land. This is a quick and simple technique that can be used to remove a SOLID or HOLLOW core WOOD door from it's frame and hinges. Even if the frame holding the door is metal this technique will still work as the force applied pulls out the screws connected to the door and not the frame. There are 3 main reasons why a Firefighter would implement this procedure: 1. When a door is in your way causing operational or safety issues and you don't have anything available to chock or hold it open. 2. When you need to quickly cover a hole in a floor or provide additional surface padding for a below grade rescue. This would only be advisable when the floor sheathing has burned away and the structural supports are still intact and strong enough to support multiple Firefighters - YOU SHOULD NEVER COMMIT ANY PERSONNEL ABOVE OR BELOW A COMPROMISED AREA THAT IS SUPPORTED BY LIGHT WEIGHT CONSTRUCTION OR STANDARD CONSTRUCTION THAT HAS BEEN SIGNIFICANTLY WEAKENED. 3. When you complete a wall breach in an attempt to escape an advancing fire and find yourself in another room where the procedure has to be repeated - Something should be placed in front of the opening you just made to slow down the fire from extending to the room you're currently in.
