I recently saw a video: www.youtube.com where it was demostrated that some iron-enriched foods actually contain enough metallic elemental iron to be magnetic. I wanted to see more of this, so I did the experiment myself, and sure enough - even the cereal I had for breakfast that morning was magnetic! In this video, you'll see floating magnetic Bran Flakes, a free-standing magnetic Bran Flake demonstration, and finally, the actual magnetic iron material bits extracted from the cereal and shown under 100x magnification. This sort of iron looks similar to the kind of black iron you would collect by passing a strong magnet through ordinary soil. After a bit of reseach, it turns out that this metallic "reduced iron" will dissolve in your stomach's hydrochloric acid, at least to some degree, and can then be then absorbed into your bloodstream for bodily processes, although not as efficiently as iron compounds such as ferrous fumarate, iron sulfate, "chelated" iron/amino acid compounds, or colloidal iron found naturally in plants/non-processed foods. So why THIS type of iron in cereal? Well apparently, ionic types of iron such iron sulfate (usually seen in vitamin pills, etc.) can actually speed-up spoilage of food, where metallic (elemental) iron is less likely to. 'GREENWICH VILLAGE ? A McDonald's cashier is caught on a horrific cell phone video using a metal rod to brutally beat two female customers who'd jumped the counter of his West 3rd Street restaurant early Thursday during a fight over their order. The cashier, who police said had previously served a decade for manslaughter, beat the women so badly that one suffered a fractured skull and broken arm in the shocking attack, which was captured on a customer's cell phone and then posted to YouTube. Police have charged the cashier, identified as Rayon McIntosh, 31, with felony assault, along with criminal possession of a weapon. Both women were charged with menacing, trespass and disorderly conduct. McIntosh is being held at the Manhattan Detention Complex on $40000 bail, according to the Department of Correction website. The drama began about 12:30 am Thursday when the two customers ? Denise Darbeau, 24, of Queens, and her pal, Rachel Edwards, 24, of Brooklyn ? entered the popular fast food spot, near Sixth Avenue, and began giving McIntosh a hard time, police sources said. The McDonald's on West 3rd Street, near Sixth Avenue (DNAinfo/Ben Fractenberg) In the video, Darbeau is clearly heard cursing at McIntosh after another cashier told her he had to scan a $50 bill to make sure it was authentic before he would give them their food. This video's short...the 40 minutes will go fast. Three runs are thrown down on the Sledgehammer Short Drill: James, Matt, and TacticalDoodle. We hook James into a CZ 75 B just in case the "zero" was off on his other pistol (Glock). He's a bit off with it but presses on with some AK action, using a TNP Arsenal SGL31 5.45mm for the rest. Matt weighs in with DPMS .308 and puts down a respectable run. He's got a good trigger press as he connects at 200 yards with that beast. Lunchtime ensues and I take you along for the food fest: HUGE pizza-sized grilled sirloin burgers and PFI's dogs on the grill. Most excellent grub. We talk a bit about systems and we'd like to see a quality adjustable stock and rail system from Troy for the AK rifle. TacticalDoodle with Santa hat and all kicks it in geart with his next run and ties the day's high score at 58 points. Holy cow! The timing on the run was an abortion since two targets had to be set up again (knocked over from getting rocked by the .308 50 times) and he wasn't setting a speed record. But his accuracy is dialed in, shooting the S&W 1911 Pro Series and SGL31 with precision (full points at 200 yd stage, very hard to do). This includes probably the best 35 yard group of the day while head shooting the PBG (paper bad guy).
