"Rescue Me" was co-written by Fontella and pianist Raynard Miner and her recording of it would be Chess Record's first million-seller since the glory days of Chuck Berry almost ten years before. "Rescue Me" would top out at the #4 spot on the pop charts during the fall of 1965, and according to Fontella, Chess cheated her out of most of her royalties upon which she would quit the recording company in 1967.. + Informações

1967 release by the woman who brought us 'Rescue Me'. Nice mid-tempo Windy City sound. It must be said it wasn't long after this record, that Fontella's disenchantment with the Chess people became so, she left the label. Bass married Jazz trumpeter Lester Bowie, and for years could be found on his jazz recordings. She continues a vibrant performer to this day with critically acclaimed recordings. Fontella is the daughter of noted gospel singer Martha Bass and the older brother of soul singer David Peaston who gathered some notoriety in the 90's.
