Florence Ballard: "Goin' Out Of My Head" 2.92 min. | 4.818182 avaliação | 14593 exibições Okay, so today, I was watching Unsung on TvOne, and today's topic was Florence Ballard. Not knowing who she was, I was interested and watched the show. After watching the show, I was very interested in Florence Ballard's musical career and personal life. This is the first time I have ever heard her, and right now in my opinion, she has a beautiful voice. A little background: Florence Glenda Ballard Chapman (June 30, 1943 February 22, 1976), nicknamed "Flo" and "Blondie", was an American singer, and one of the original founders of the Hall of Fame Motown group The Supremes. During their early years, members of The Supremes (originally called The Primettes) enjoyed a generally democratic distribution of leads on songs. However, by 1966, Ballard and Mary Wilson had begun to feel ignored in the group as Motown President Berry Gordy, Jr. spotlighted Diana Ross's individual career. Consequent discontent led Ballard to chronic depression and alcoholism, factors that weighed heavily in Gordy's decision to permanently dismiss Ballard from The Supremes in July 1967. Her replacement was former Bluebelle Cindy Birdsong. After an unsuccessful attempt at a solo career in the late 1960s, Ballard spent much of the last five years of her life in relative poverty, attempting to avoid media attention while suing the various parties involved in her dismissal from Motown. By the mid-1970s, it appeared that Ballard had regained control of her mental and emotional health - making public .... + Informações |

From 1963 until 1967, Ballard sang on 16 Top 40 hit Supremes' singles, ten of which hit number-one on the Billboard Hot 100. In 1967, Motown CEO Berry Gordy decided to remove Ballard from the Supremes. After being dropped from the group, Ballard struggled with a solo career in the late 1960s and spent much of the last five years of her life in relative poverty before recieving an insurance settlement with which she began to re-build her life with, purchasing a new house and car. In 1976, Ballard died of cardiac arrest at the age of thirty-two while making a comeback in the entertainment industry. Her death has been called "one of rock's greatest tragedies". The character "Effie White" from the 1981 broadway play and 2006 play Dreamgirls is loosely based on Florence Ballard and The Supremes story. Jennifer Hudson won a Golden Globe Award and Academy Award for her portrayal of Effie White in the "Dreamgirls" film. In her Golden Globe acceptance speech, Hudson dedicated her win to Florence Ballard.. + Informações |

Florence Ballard - founder and original member of Motown group The Supremes - sings "Oh Holy Night". Florence Ballard - Alternate Take 1: "It Doesn't Matter How I Say It (It's What I Say That Matters)" 3.28 min. | 4.5 avaliação | 9289 exibições Former member and founder of Motown group The Supremes, Florence Ballard sings the first take of her first solo record with ABC Records - only a year after her firing from The Supremes and departure from Motown. Florence, billed as Florence 'Flo' Ballard, released a different take of this song as her first single under ABC Records, with a cover of the Little Anthony & The Imperials classic "Goin' Out Of My Head" as its b-side. Even though The Supremes were and still are the most successful female group in history, racking up 10 US #1 hits while Flo was in the group and getting two more after her dismissal, both the singles she released with ABC failed to garner much attention and didn't show on any major charts due to poor promotion and distribution by ABC - and also because part of the agreement that allowed her to leave Motown Records stated she was not allowed to mention that she was once a Supreme. The album Flo recorded with ABC under the proposed title "You Don't Have To" was shelved and ABC did not renew her contract, but in 2002 a London based company released her album under the title "The Supreme Florence Ballard" along with 4 tracks that featured her on lead as a Supreme. Flo has been mentioned in her fellow Supreme Mary Wilson's bestselling books entitled "Dreamgirl: My Life as a Supreme" and "Supreme Faith: Someday Well Be Together". Three biographies have been written on her; the first by Randall Wilson called "Florence Ballard: Forever Faithful!" was .... + Informações |

Florence Ballard - Unreleased Interview Excerpts 4.07 min. | 4.95 avaliação | 8029 exibições For many months in 1974, an ambitious reporter for the Detroit Free Press named Peter Benjaminson interviewed Florence Ballard for an in-depth piece about her life, struggles and triumphs. Conducted at the modest home the ex-Supreme shared with her three young daughters, these private conversations remain the most intimate glimpses available into Flo's feelings about her family, her rise to stardom, her world-famous career, her controversial ousting, and her effort to rebuild her life. On June 28, 2009, two days before Flo's 66th birthday, black entertainment channel TV One honored Flo's life with an hour-long installment about her in their popular "Unsung" series. This episode (which I have uploaded) features a few minutes of never-before-heard excerpts of Flo and Benjaminson's sessions. In this video I condensed all of Flo's words in the order they aired. This audio appears nowhere else. ... Hopefully someday Benjaminson will release all of the interviews to Flo's adoring public.. + Informações |
