A 1971 release from this great girl-group, this was coupled with "Little Darlin'" for their first single after following writer/producers Wayne Bickerton and Tony Waddington from the Deram label to Polydor. This clip seems to have been filmed around the entrance to Bath Abbey. The song itself was a hit for Gladys Knight & The Pips in 1967, but the Flirtations give it a nice treatment of their own. It would be nice to see their Polydor and RCA material from the 70's get a CD release.... + Informações

The Flirtations bounce back for the new album with a track that is aimed right at the Duffy and Amy Winehouse crowd, without compromising or losing its authentic Northern Soul flavour. What's old is new and this new song, "Camouflage", is as modern as they come, yet as retro as they come all at the same time.These are the original Flirtations, Earnestine Pearce, Shirley Pearce, and Pearly Gates, who originally were the Gypsies. They have been together recording for forty four years and look just fabulous still, right up to this day. Pearly Gates, real name Vi Billups, has been a friend of mine for thirty years. The girls started out as the Gypsies on Old Town Records, a classic teenage girl group from New York, with the early sixties classics, "Jerk It", and the Northern Soul legendary classic "It's A Woman's World", before becoming The Flirtations, and emigrating to England. They had many hits in the late 1960s and early 1970s, including "Nothing But A Heartache", and another Northern Soul classic, "Need Your Love", on the Deram label. In the late seventies they disbanded, and I got to produce a whole album on Pearly, called "No Two Ways About It", during the classic disco era, an album for Music Business legend, Artie Mogul ,once he had left United Artists in 1979. But he reneged on the deal, and I never got paid, and the album never came out, till years later, when I started using the tracks on my Nightmare Gold series in 1986, and then eventually the tracks were all .... + Informações

The Flirtations' brand new and utterly amazing version of my classic Miquel Brown song, "He's A Saint, He's A Sinner", simply makes me dizzy with pride, as does this wonderful video. And of course this is yet another performance for my oh so important new project. My brand new album, "Yesterday And Tomorrow", is probably the most dear to my heart project that I have ever undertaken. I decided after thirty three years since I made my very first record, "Reaching For The Best" by The Exciters, to take a trip back down memory lane and recut thirty of my classics on artists who I am currently working with, reinterpreting them in 2008 without losing the magic that made them special in the first place. It's a totally self indulgent project, but one which already has my fans salivating with delight. I first got the idea when I recut Evelyn Thomas's wonderful classic "Have A Little Faith In Me" with Ebony Alleyne, last year. So I'm doing thirty in total, twenty four for the CD and six more extra ones for the DVD, picking either my biggest hits, my most beloved tracks, or the songs which people most requested to see a video. As I must clearly explain, these are not the original versions. And that's what makes the project exciting and new.These are brand spanking new interpretaions of the classics, by Centre City's current roster of artists , built up over a thirty three year career of making records. THE FLIRTATIONS - HOW CAN YOU TELL ME - BABY BOLLOX MAGIC REMIX. The Flirtations (previously The Gypsies) - are an all-female musical group who have recorded since the early 1960's. In 1962 in New York, four women from South Carolina formed The Gypsies. They were Lestine Johnson and sisters Ernestine Pearce, Shirley Pearce and Betty Pearce. In 1964 they signed to Old Town Records, where they released their debut single "Hey There, Hey There". The song achieved airplay only on local radio stations, but their next single ? the JJ Jackson-written "Jerk It" ? was more successful, reaching #111 (pop) and #33 (R&B) in the spring of 1965. Despite the relative success of "Jerk It", Lestine Johnson left the group, replaced by Viola Billups. The Gypsies released only two singles on Old Town Records in 1966, giving them a total of four. That year, now on Josie Records, the four women renamed themselves The Flirtations and released the well-regarded northern soul ballad "Change My Darkness Into Light". It was ignored by DJs and sales suffered. The quartet then moved to Festival Records, where they released "Stronger Than Her Love" and "Settle Down" as a single, which failed to spark much interest. Betty Pearce left the group, reducing the Flirtations to a trio. After winning a small local talent contest in 1968 to see who could sound the most like the Supremes, they packed their bags and headed for England, where they signed to the Parrot label, joining artists like Tom Jones.
