Federal authorities raid Oaksterdam University Medical Marijuana Clinic (DEA & IRS) The IRS & DEA came to downtown Oakland today to raid multiple medical marijuana dispensaries as well as Oaksterdam, an educational facility that teaches plant cultivation. Robbie Martin of Media Roots ran to catch the raid and captured an intense standoff between the people and the government officials. He also confronts an ABC 7 news reporter Mark Matthews after he hears them tell the police they are doing an 'amazing job.' Federal agents have raided the home and businesses of medical marijuana activist Richard Lee. Lee is the founder of Oaksterdam University, a medical marijuana trade school. Drug Enforcement Agents, Internal Revenue Service agents and federal marshals descended on Oaksterdam University Monday morning, serving search warrants there and at several other places in Oakland all connected to long time marijuana legalization activist Richard Lee. DEA agents loaded black bags of marijuana plants taken from Oaksterdam's grow room. They took a safe and boxes of paper records. Around the corner they also raided the Oakland Cannabis Buyer's Club office on 15th Street and on 17th Street the coffee shop Blue Sky. All of those locations raided were rented or run by Richard Lee, a 49-year-old founder of Oaksterdam University and a force in the fight to legalize marijuana. Federal authorities arrested Lisette Lee, a possible heir to the Samsung Electronics Fortune, along with her bodyguard and two assistants, after landing at a Columbus, Ohio airport. Lisette Lee was allegedly carrying 506 lbs of marijuana in her 13 suitcases. Lee, who is 28 and from Beverly Hills, says that she was flying to Columbus, Ohio, to meet her boyfriend, and had no idea that she was carrying drugs. According to CBS, police found 506 lbs of marijuana, as well as cocaine, and a ledger that showed $300000 in profits. The Associated Press reports that Lee was charged with conspiracy and possession of drugs with the intent to distribute, and is being held without bond. A member of Congress apparently thinks so, and is demanding the storms be given names that sound "black." The congressional newspaper the Hill reported this week that Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, feels that the current names are too "lily white," and is seeking to have better representation for names reflecting African-Americans and other ethnic groups.
