Documentário de Kátia Lund e João Moreira Salles, o filme examina o submundo nos morros cariocas, como se dão as guerras facções versus polícia e facções versus facções, considerando o ponto de vista dos traficantes, dos policiais e, "no meio do fogo cruzado", dos moradores. Ótimo filme, é grande influenciador de inúmeros documentários e ficções, sendo inspirador do ex-capitão Rodrigo Pimentel (que presta interessante depoimento nestas entrevistas), o roteirista de "Tropa de Elite". Contém ainda entrevista com o escritor Paulo Lins, autor do livro "Cidade de Deus", do ex-chefe da Polícia Civil do Rio de Janeiro Hélio Luz, de Carlos Gregório "Gordo" (um dos fundadores do Comando Vermelho) e de diversas outras pessoas menos notáveis para a massa mas não menos interessantes.
