In 1962 an all female vocal group led by Brenda Reid out of Queens, NY called The Masterettes came to the attention of the songwriting/producing team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. It was decided that a male voice (Herb Rooney) would be added to the group which would be renamed The Exciters. Leiber & Stoller handed them the song "Tell Him", and by December of '62 they were on the pop charts. "Tell Him" would ultimately be the only Top 40 single for The Exciters peaking at #3 in January of 1963.. + Informações

The Exciters were Brenda Reid, Herbert Rooney, Carol Johnson and Lillian Walker. In late 1962/early 1963 they scored a monster hit with the Bert Berns tune, Tell Him (first recorded by Johnny Thunder under the name Gil Hamilton on Capitol). They would chart on the hot 100 a total of six times under three different labels between 1963 and 1966. This record was their 15th release as a group, after a couple of non-charting singles for Shout records they found themselves signed to RCA Victor for two singles and this was the first of them. They continued recording through 1975 and hit the UK charts that year one last time before splitting up. Brenda Reid re-formed the Exciters in 1989 for another release. Group member Carol Johnson passed away in 2007.. + Informações

The Exciters were an American pop music group of the 1960's, they were originally a girl group called 'The Masterettes, although male member Herb Rooney later joined them and they changed their name to 'The Exciters' "Do-Wah-Diddy-Diddy" is a song written by Ellie Greenwich & Jeff Barry, originally recorded by The Exciters in 1963 and released on United Artists records and reached a lowly number 78 on the Billboard Hot 100. A demonstration of how a set of Dayton Sound exciters can be used to create a set of Hi-Fi loud speakers. These were created using the following materials: One pair of Dayton Sound Exciters ( Parts Express), Two pieces of aluminum .030"thk. x 12"wx 12"h (hobby shop), Paper foam paper board 12" x12" x 1/4thk. (craft shop), 500ohm. speaker of unknown manufacturer for the very high frequency (electronic surplus), Super glue used to adhere .500 ohm. speaker to front and also to adhere the tripod mounts. The amplifier is a 35wpc. KT88 push pull, CD is Kenwood 5 disc, Subwoofer is a Radio Shack 12" passive. The resulting sound is better than some very expensive bookshelf speakers that I have heard.
