Emerson, Lake & Palmer, also known as ELP, are an English progressive rock supergroup. They found success in the 1970s and sold over forty million albums and headlined large stadium concerts. The band consists of Keith Emerson (keyboards), Greg Lake (bass guitar, vocals, guitar) and Carl Palmer (drums, percussion). They are one of the most commercially successful progressive rock bands and from the outset focused on combining classical pieces with rock music. Pictures at an Exhibition is an album by British progressive rock band Emerson, Lake & Palmer, released in 1971 as a live album and re-released in 2001 as a remastered edition including both live and studio versions of Modest Mussorgsky's classical piece Pictures at an Exhibition. The original live album was recorded at Newcastle City Hall in North East England. The opening track of the album was played on a Harrison & Harrison pipe organ which was installed in the City Hall in 1928. The organ console is some way above stage level, at the top of a stepped terrace used for choral performances. The drum roll connecting the opening track to the next served to cover Emerson's dash back down to the stage. There was also a video made of a different live performance (Lyceum Theatre, 9 December 1970). This had a limited theatrical release in 1973, and a remastered DVD release with Dolby surround sound in 2000. The Young Symphony Orchestra & Band from São Paulo-Brasil have performed several concerts from classical music to Brazilian music and Classic Rock, in this case EMERSON LAKE & PALMER-PIRATES was performed firstly and then Rick Wakeman's Arthur album. Through the years they have performed Journey To The Centre Of The Earth as well along the amazing Sao Paulo University Choir in several venues, they are all together again at Latin America Memorial in Sao Paulo conducted by Monica Giardini in a concert to remember, I got this video from a tape which I don't know who filmed, but as the sound quality was not so good, I decided to mix the audio from their CD released officially here in Brazil and through Voiceprint label (www.voiceprint.co.uk /VP271CD/) in which their performance is incredible, as well the ELP's Pirates piece, which was such perfect, and added some pictures I took from one of the concerts I had pleased to watch, plus light effects. Well, they performed this piece so brilliantly so I decided to share it with all ELP fans hoping they repeat either Journey and Arthur/Pirates performances again. In 1976, Emerson was approached to write the music for a Norman Jewison film entitled, The Dogs Of War. The film score never happened (although the movie did come out in 1981), but out of it came "Pirates", which featured lyrics by Greg Lake and Pete Sinfield.
