A: The first two versions both had things wrong with them that I either noticed after I'd uploaded them or decided were worse than I'd realized. Hopefully "three's the charm." Q: What do the colors mean? A: The reddish colors are the string instruments, the fuzzy greenish colors are the wind instruments, and thin blue/violet is the piano. Q: Why isn't everything perfectly in sync like in your other videos? A: There were actually three separate performances: the performance you're hearing, the performance you're seeing (my hands), and the performance the bar-graph score is based on. I got these as close as I could, but there were always places that were a little off, so I finally said "good enough" and stopped trying to make it better. Q: It seems like the two scores don't match exactly; is that a mistake? A: You're right, they don't match exactly. The bar-graph score at the top has all the notes of all the instruments, but the conventional score at the bottom is a "reduction" with the eleven staves of the full score compressed into four staves. "ELVIRA MADIGAN" or "SORGELIGA SAKER HÄNDA" This Swedish song was written by Johan Lindström Saxon in 1889 and tells the true story of the impossible love between the Danish circus queen and tightrope walker Elvira Madigan and the aristocratic Swedish Lieutenant Sixten Sparre. It ended in tragedy. Sparre killed first his love and then himself with his pistol. Sixten Sparre was 35 years when this happened, was married and had two children. Elvira Madigan was only 22. The song is written in the typical style of this time, which makes it sound still more tragic. This recording was made and sent by Radio Sweden in 1942. Carin Swensson, Swedish actress and ballad singer (1905 - 1990) sings to guitar. She was born Hedvig Antoinette Isabella Eleonore Jensen in Flensburg in northern Germany. Her mother was a Norwegian circus performer and her father a Danish stablemaster. Her mother later lived with the American circus manager John Madigan. While performing in Sweden with her stepfather's circus she met a Swedish cavalry officer, Lieutenant Count Bengt Edvard Sixten Sparre (born September 27, 1854). Sparre and Madigan fell in love, but their love was impossible, partly due to the fact that Sparre was married and the father of two children. After exchanging love letters for one year they ran away together to Denmark in June 1889, where they spent about one month. When they ran out of money, they packed a picnic basket, went out to the Nørreskov ("North forest") on the island Tåsinge, Denmark, and had a last meal, after which Sparre shot Madigan and himself with his service revolver.
