A voice very familiar to those who followed the Big Bands of the 1940's belonged to Eddy Howard who started out to become a doctor, but dropped out of Stanford Medical School to follow his first love...music. He sang with the big bands of Ben Bernie and Dick Jurgens for a while and then started his own band and "Careless" was their theme. This is a 78 rpm recording of Room Full Of Roses performed by Eddie Howard on the Mercury label. This sone was re-recorded in 1974 by Mickey Gilley. It is played on the 1957 Motorola HiFi. If you look close you may see the outline of the 15" bass speaker in the lower right of the speaker grill. This console had 4 speakers and now has 6 due to two of them being coaxial. On September 5, 2005 at the Hammond Organ Center there was a very special get together of Eddie, John Peters, PJ Morgan, Clay Bogan III, Papa John DeFrancesco and Joey DeFrancesco. Just a note : Three years ago, at a car swap meet in Stockton, Ca., I ran into the grandson of the composer of I WONDER, I WONDER, I WONDER, Daryl Hutchins. His grandson had a stand at the swap meet, in fact, I bought an old 1940's , original, pin-up doll calender from him that day. He mentioned his grandfather and the song and "naturally"... I knew the song very well. Anyhow, he didn't have a copy of record, which blew my mind, in fact, he'd never seen an actual copy of it. After buying the calender, I told him that I'd send him one of my copies, but then I lost the guy's address a short while later. Oh well, I'm not entirely perfect, but hell, I'm working on it. One of my all time fave tunes in one of the prettiest versions I've ever heard. I adore this record. It is on Mercury Playcraft 78rpm and is Playcraft Record # 5 playing on the Admiral bakelite.. + Informações

In 1951 it charted for 6 different performers. Eddy Howard's was #1 for 8 weeks. The Four Aces were second with a #4 position, their first hit. The writers were George Hoven and Chester Shull. The proper title is "Sin", or "(It's No) Sin". 1) Eddy Howard 2) Four Aces 3) The Duprees - a small #74 hit in 1964, following Have You Heard. This one never gets included on hits compilations. This Four Aces version is not the original, but a rerecording when they joined Decca. Found on their Shufflin Along LP and the 1974 MCA hits album. It's one exception where the rerecording is superor to the original. Current CDs include the original. Eddy Howard sang thruout the 1940s into the 50s.. + Informações
