In de jaren veertig en vijftig was hij een popidool. Deze formidabele gitarist/zanger heeft vele bekende nummers op zijn naam staan. In 2008 nam hij op negentigjarige leeftijd, na een werkzaam leven van meer dan zeventig jaar, afscheid van zijn publiek.
