Douglas Wayne Sahm (November 6, 1941 -- November 18, 1999), was a musician from Texas. Born in San Antonio, Texas, he was a child prodigy in country music, but became a significant figure in blues, rock and other genres. Today Sahm is considered one of the most important figures in what is identified as Tejano music. He was the founder and leader of the 1960s rock and roll band the Sir Douglas Quintet, and later with Augie Meyers, Freddy Fender and Flaco Jimenez in The Texas Tornados, and also in Los Super Seven supergroup. en.wikipedia.org. + Informações

The Texas Tornados, led by Doug Sahm, perform a Sir Douglas Quintet classic "Mendocino"! Of course, Doug Sahm was Sir Douglas, and Augie was part of the group too. Here is the classic song, "Ya No Llores", orginally by Los Relampagos del Norte ( Cornelio Reyna and Ramon Ayala), done by Doug Sahm, and the Sir Douglas Quintet. The concert takes place in 1994, in Fruitigen, Switzerland. This version is one of my favorites. I honestly believe Doug Sahm thought he was part Mexican, since he loved this music so much. The Hispanic, Mexican, Mexican-American, Mexicano, Latino, Latin-American, Pocho's, and all other familia should put him right up there with Cesar Chavez! This guy loved Mexican people, and their music. Thanks Doug! This band features the Clay Meyers. son of Augie Meyers, and Shawn Sahm, son of Doug Sahm. Also in the band is Doug Clifford, from Creedance Clearwater Revival. I added video from the Bonilla Family video. I thought it would be better than just a blank screen. I hope you enjoy it. Doug Sahm. Sahm began his musical career singing and playing steel guitar, mandolin and violin as Little Doug Sahm, making his radio debut at age five, and releasing his first record A Real American Joe at age eleven. On December 19, 1952, he played on stage with Hank Williams. Doug Sahm soared to music heights with the 1960s rock and roll band The Sir Douglas Quintet. The band had a top 20 US hit with Shes About A Mover. In 1973, Atlantic Records produced his solo debut Doug Sahm and Band, an album featuring Bob Dylan, Dr. John, David Bromberg and Flaco Jiménez. In 1983, Sahm and childhood friend Augie Meyers signed with the Swedish Sonet label, and made several extensive European tours. The single Meet Me In Stockholm from their Midnight Sun LP went platinum and was one of the biggest selling records ever in Scandinavia. Here's a pretty rare recording from a teenager named Doug Sahm. He might be better known as Sir Douglas of Sir Douglas Quintet fame. This is a demo-like cut from 1961. There's considerable distortion on the record, which is not my doing. The mains hum at the very start, however, is, for which I apologise.
