Dottie West - Greatest Hits 35.37 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 3438 exibições West performing all her chart-toppers live at Church Street Station in Orlando. This exhilarating performance recorded live at the Church Street Station Theatre in Orlando, Florida (1984) features Dottie West with special guests Freddie Weller and Tom Wopat. West was one of the most successful and controversial performers to rise to popularity during the Nashville sound era. Like her friend and mentor Patsy Cline, West's battles for identity and respect within the male-dominated country music hierarchy were instrumental in enabling other female artists to gain control over the directions of their careers. West earned her first Top 40 hit in 1963 and was the first female country artist to win a Grammy Award for the chart-topper "Here Comes My Baby." A string of hits followed, including a pair of number ones with "What Are We Doin' in Love" and "A Lesson in Leavin'." She performs all these songs and more on this spectacular DVD.. + Informações |

Dottie West ~ Careless Hands 2.00 min. | 4.902439 avaliação | 14074 exibições Dottie West's career spanned more than 25 years and yielded an array of Top-20 hits. She was the first female to win a Grammy for a country music performance. The Grammy was for her 1964 hit single, Here Comes My Baby. She's probably best remembered for her notable success as the singing partner of Kenny Rogers. Their biggest single was a No. 1 song titled Every Time Two Fools Collide. Dottie's show business saga ended when she died in a freaky automobile accident. Dottie moved to Nashville in 1959 and made unsuccessful recordings with Starday and Atlantic. In 1961, she signed a recording deal with RCA Records. Two years passed before she made Billboard's Top-40. Dottie entered the charts in 1963 with a song called Let me Off at the Corner. She debuted on the Grand Ole Opry in 1962. After a few more minor singles, West finally broke into the national limelight on a duet with Jim Reeves entitled Love is No Excuse. The single was still on the charts when Reeves died in 1964. In 1964, Dottie joined the Grand Ole Opry and was a lifelong member. Country Sunshine, which West co-wrote, became a theme for Coca-Cola commercials and earned West an award. Dottie was a mentor for young aspiring singers. She also helped many of them break into the business. West brought Larry Gatlin to Nashville and hired Steve Wariner as a bass player. Wariner worked in her band for several years. Dottie maintained an active touring schedule until her untilely death. On August 30, 1991, Dottie was .... + Informações |

Jim Reeves & Dottie West ~ Love Is No Excuse 2.53 min. | 4.9375 avaliação | 87426 exibições TheDemise of Original Country Music Original Country Music (OCM) is a type of music that has a unique sound and style with a blend of musical forms originally found in the Southern United States. It evolved from folk music, gospel music and old-time or hillbilly music in the 1920s. The term country music began to surface in the 1940s when the earlier term hillbilly music was considered degrading. Currently it is referred to as original country music (coined by Ray Price), thereby distinguishing it from the current pop oriented sound. Traditional artists had a distinctive sound, a sort of brand that made them easily identifiable from their peers. Hank Williams, Ray Price, Merle Haggard, Conway Twitty, George Jones, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, Kitty Wells and Patsy Cline all had distinguishable voices as did their peers. The music was presented in a heartfelt and professional manner. The industry fostered respect and it was exemplified by the method the artists presented themselves on and off stage. There were no faded or torn jeans, unmatched apparel or exposed cleavage. The Grand Ole Opry had stringent rules that not only governed the aforementioned, but also the type of musical instruments allowed on stage. Until the mid-1950s, the Opry didnt allow drums on stage and initially drums were placed back stage behind curtains. By the early-1990s, Opry executives loosened the rules regarding onstage presentations and today it appears they have little involvement in that .... + Informações |
