Nat King Cole - THE WAY YOU LOOK TONIGHT (Jerome Kern and Dorothy Fields). 3.05 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 4553 exibições Nathaniel Adams Coles (March 17, 1919 -- February 15, 1965), known professionally as Nat King Cole, was an American musician who first came to prominence as a leading jazz pianist. Although an accomplished pianist, he owes most of his popular musical fame to his soft baritone voice, which he used to perform in big band and jazz genres. He was one of the first black Americans to host a television variety show, and has maintained worldwide popularity since his death. "The Way You Look Tonight" is a song featured in the film Swing Time, originally performed by Fred Astaire. It won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1936.The song was sung to Ginger Rogers as Penelope "Penny" Carroll by Astaire's character of John "Lucky" Garnett while Penny was busy washing her hair in an adjacent room, and feeling anything but beautiful at the time. The song was written by Jerome Kern with lyrics by Dorothy Fields,[1] and has become a standard. Fields later remarked, "The first time Jerry played that melody for me I went out and started to cry. The release absolutely killed me. I couldn't stop, it was so beautiful.". + Informações |

558. The Rhythm of Life (Cy Coleman and Dorothy Fields) 3.77 min. | 4.857143 avaliação | 10832 exibições "Sweet Charity" is a musical based on Federico Fellini's movie, "Nights of Cabiria," which in turn became a movie, starring Shirley MacLaine. The original Broadway production, directed and choreographed by Bob Fosse opened in January, 1966, at the Palace Theatre and ran for 608 performances. It was nominated for 12 Tony Awards, winning for Fosse's choreography. Fosse also directed and choreographed the film version in 1969. "The Rhythm of Life," which is performed early in the second Act, is probably the best-known song from the show, and is popular with choirs. Here it is sung by the Hong Kong Welsh Male Voice Choir, at the 20th wedding anniversary party of Tony and Gidget Wong. It has been partly rewritten for Hong Kong audiences. This is not a concert performance and there are other things going on, so there is a lot of background noise, but it is a chance to see the choir in casual mode, without the usual rule about not drinking before a performance. Irene Dunne - Lovely To Look At 3.07 min. | 4.75 avaliação | 55925 exibições Music by Jerome Kern Lyrics by Dorothy Fields This is the original performance of the song, from 1935. Irene Dunne had a remarkable career, including 5 academy award nominations for best actress, Kennedy Center honoree, UN diplomat, and philanthropist. However, she said her proudest achievement was having Jerome Kern write this song for her. Dunne is the female singer most closely associated with Kern's music. Kern's favorite male singer is also in this video - he's the conductor. Another Dunne video I posted was "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" - that was the scene where she and Randolph Scott broke up. This song, later in the movie, is their reconciliation. Interesting trivia - the fur she is wearing cost 9000 dollars in 1935 - that's over $100000 today. During filming, she had a special bodyguard following her around - to protect the dress!. + Informações |

Jim Hession/I Won't Dance/ Jerome Kern/ Dorothy Fields 4.18 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 1994 exibições hessionsession.webs.com http WARNING: Do not attempt to dance to this rendition unless you are adept at switching waltz and swing time. "Swing Time" (Astaire and Rogers) is the 1938 film that brought this tune it's greatest exposure. Like many Kern tunes it has superb musical construction-just right for an improvised arrangement! This was filmed in New Orleans at the Word Of Mouth Studio in Algiers, La on June 2,2008. We first learned these Kern and Fields tunes when we were resident musicians at the Variety Arts Center in downtown Los Angeles in the 1980's. The Kern show was one of our back to back (two person; Jim and Martha)running songwriters show reviews that ran at the theater. These shows eventually got us our own PBS show for "On Stage LA". Originally it was slated to be a 13 part series that was cut short because of the Governor Reagan cut- backs to the arts in California.. + Informações |
