My Country by Dorothea Mackellar - Picture Commentary 2.13 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 1142 exibições This is my term 2 English assignment. We had to present then analyse a poem using a multimedia presentation. The poem I chose was My Country by Dorothea Mackellar. I chose this poem because it is probably one of my favourite pieces of poetry and it induces a feeling of pride in being Australian. The song used in the background is Still Alive from the Mirror's Edge sountrack sung by Lisa Miskovsky. It seems to really fit the poem. The pictures used are from Googe Images, Flickr or are my own. I put a lot of effort into making sure they are all Australian (except the ones that aren't supposed to be). Thanks! Let me know what you think. + Informações |

My Country Dorothea Mackellar 2.25 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 169 exibições This is me reciting Dorothea Mackellar's My Country. Dorothea grew up in Sydney Australia in a time when people still longed for the 'mother country' England and did not see the beauty in the land they now resided in. Dorothea was surrounded by such people. However, Dorothea saw Australia with different glasses. It is said that upon leaving Australia for England on one of many trips with her family as a young girl someone commented to her "Oh, you must be so happy to be going home" to which Dorothea quickly replied "I'm not going home, I'm leaving it. Unlike the other settlers from England who saw Australia perhaps as a 'prisoner island' Dorothea loved her 'wide brown land'...... As do I.. + Informações |

thoughts from places: the 2011 floods 3.02 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 469 exibições If you're confused, here is "My Country" by Dorothea Mackellar (a really famous poem in Australia): The love of field and coppice, Of green and shaded lanes. Of ordered woods and gardens Is running in your veins, Strong love of grey-blue distance Brown streams and soft dim skies I know but cannot share it, My love is otherwise. I love a sunburnt country, A land of sweeping plains, Of ragged mountain ranges, Of droughts and flooding rains. I love her far horizons, I love her jewel-sea, Her beauty and her terror - The wide brown land for me! A stark white ring-barked forest All tragic to the moon, The sapphire-misted mountains, The hot gold hush of noon. Green tangle of the brushes, Where lithe lianas coil, And orchids deck the tree-tops And ferns the warm dark soil. Core of my heart, my country! Her pitiless blue sky, When sick at heart, around us, We see the cattle die - But then the grey clouds gather, And we can bless again The drumming of an army, The steady, soaking rain. Core of my heart, my country! Land of the Rainbow Gold, For flood and fire and famine, She pays us back threefold - Over the thirsty paddocks, Watch, after many days, The filmy veil of greenness That thickens as we gaze. An opal-hearted country, A wilful, lavish land - All you who have not loved her, You will not understand - Though earth holds many splendours, Wherever I may die, I know to what brown country My homing thoughts will fly.. + Informações |

The Dreamer - acousticems 2.18 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 1031 exibições I came across this poem by the australian poet, Dorothea Mackellar. Thought it was a nice little poem, so I decided to compose some music to it. Also decided to try out iMovie's green screen effect, to make a copy of myself. However I dont have the equipment and a decent camera to make it look good. Hope you enjoyed it anyway! Lyrics: Over the crest of the Hill of Sleep, Over the plain where the mists lie deep, Into a country of wondrous things, Enter we dreaming, and know we're kings. Murmur or roar as it may, the stream Laughs to the youngster who dreams his dream. Leave him alone till his fool's heart breaks: Dreams all are real till the dreamer wakes! High Places - Stephen Leek 2.92 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 83 exibições High Places Music by Stephen Leek Text by Dorothea Mackellar From the CD 'High Places', available on iTunes The National Youth Choir of Australia Conducted by Graeme Morton www.nyca.org.au "My heart turns to the mountains That I so long have missed, The blue hills on the sky-line, Bird-haunted, sunshine-kissed; For in my soul I see them, The gullies golden-green Where from the hop-vine tangle The bellbird chimes unseen. The clouds that go so quickly The whole hill seems to lean;? I want to breathe in deeply The cool air, thin and keen. My heart turns to high places All men have long adored? The proud and lonely mountains, The Altars of the Lord.". + Informações |
