Paul and Donovan play their acoustics while an engineer adjusts the mix and sets up gear. This was supposedly recorded as the studio was being readied for a Mary Hopkin session (around the time of the Get Back / Let It Be sessions). It is written everywhere that they became friends in Rishikesh, India, where Donovan taught the boys how to fingerpick (which became very useful in writing for the white album). Interviewer: We're here with the great Donovan. We're just moments away from the Change Begins Within benefit concert where Donovan is the star. Donovan: Yes, I'm going to be shining with other stars tonight. It's going to be like a cosmos of stars. Interviewer: You are the chairman of the musical wing of the David Lynch Foundation and in turn the television channel. How did that come about? Donovan: Well a couple of years ago, Linda my wife was here and we went on national television in the United States to show people what meditation was. It got to David Lynch and he'd just formed the foundation and said, "my goodness it's Donovan." And David said to me that I was responsible in a big way in taking up Transcendental Meditation and now that he's got the foundation would I join him and we've been travelling the world, Linda, me and David Lynch promoting the foundation. Interviewer: It's so wonderful. Do you have any advice for young artists who are just starting out musical business? Donovan: Yeah learn to meditate and do Transcendental Meditation because if you want to get in touch with your creative juices they're all going to be inside anyway. With songwriting you have to create the circumstances for the music to come through you and the best way to do that is dive deep down inside. A lot of musicians do it without meditation and they do quite well.
