This is an advanced dog trick for any dog that has some experience working with a positive, marker-based style of training. It has been made popular partly from being seen in a number of movies. By breaking the trick up into manageable little parts, any dog can learn it so long as they are set up to be successful throughout the various stages highlighted in this video. However, I must say that that it requires an extensive amount of slow & patient training and can take some dogs weeks to master. NOTE: I do not suggest using anything other than scotch tape, because if the glue is too strong it can be an unpleasant experience for the dog...which is not what dog training is about!. + Informações

Teaching a dog to make eye contact is extremely useful with a variety of applications. It is a good habit to encourage especially in puppies who often have the tendency to be rambunctious, particularly in the presence of delicious food/treats. Use this exercise to help build their focus & attention while demonstrating that rewards in their environment are unlocked through you. Ideally, we should always establish eye contact before giving them any obedience cue. This is also a great exercise for anybody that is new to clicker training. It can be a little challenging at first to time your clicks and deliver the food rewards perfectly, so this is a good place to start and develop your skill. Be sure to repeat each step outlined in this video several times before raising the criteria and moving on to the next one. Some dogs are more persistent and require extra patience before they start to offer eye contact. This is where clicker training is awesome because it allows us to mark the exact millisecond when the desired behavior happens thus making it very easy for the dog to understand & learn. Always use high-value food rewards & always reward after each click so that it does not lose value. Finally, food rewards should be understood as a stepping stone to teaching something. This means that eventually, there is no need to reward your dog with food every time as they learn to offer the behavior by default. Thank you for watching!. + Informações

Here's my sheltie Taz's appearance on Pet Star performing his routine of tricks while blindfolded, the first dog to my knowledge to ever do such a thing. I would never have thought a dog would anything like this, particularly since most dogs refuse to move when they have their eyes covered. But once I found out he was willing to do simple tricks like waving with the blindfold on, we just started working out harder and harder skills and he just totally amazed me with his uncanny ability to figure things out as we went along, and most importantly...still having fun while doing it! He is quite a show-off and clearly enjoys the attention he gets when doing tricks like this. I do have to laugh a bit at Mario holding him all through the judge's intro and comments. Taz is not particularly fond of being held but is too polite to really object to it, but they actually had to tape that twice so both Taz and Mario were obviously getting very tired and quite happy when he finally put him down!. + Informações

Training a dog to heel is a great exercise which develops several different capacities in a dog. In addition to furthering their learning ability and body awareness, it also aids in teaching them to communicate better with their human. It should be taught like any other trick or behavior, by breaking it up into small successive steps and making it a highly rewarding experience. It is normal for it to take several days and even weeks to get the kind of results demonstrated in this video. Remember to work on it consistently and always allow the dog to be successful. If they are unable to meet reward criteria, then as trainers we must lower criteria, making it easier for several sessions before making it more difficult once again. If this advice is followed, just about any dog can learn to do this.
