In the country, kids are offered traditional sweets of the season, almonds and fruits. Christmas signals the advent of 12 holidays also known as Dodecameron, which ends on Epiphany Day. La Catrina fue creada por artistas mexicanos para hacer una representación metafórica de la alta clase social de México que vivìa antes de la Revolución Mexicana. Posteriormente se hizo el símbolo oficial de la Muerte ya que en Mèxico se celebra el Dìa de los Muertos el 1 y 2 de noviembre en toda la Repùblica Mexicana. El mexicano se burla de la muerte y juega co ella con cierta picardìa y respeto. De acuerdo con el folclor mexicano, "La Catrina," mejor conocida como la Muerte y con muchos nombres màs, puede mostrarse de muchas formas. Algunas veces se representa alegre, vestida de manera elaborada, con ganas de divertirse e incluso coqueta y seductora con los mortales. Otras, nos la encontramos "en los purititos huesos," lista para llevarnos cuando menos lo esperamos.
