February 2008 - This is a scene I created, basic in its nature as I created it to get a feel for various practical techniques such as character animation and digital compositing. After the scene is viewed, the video shows some details of how I put it together! I'm self-taught and well-aware that I'm still an amateur in CG animation, but I learn more almost every day. I've been teaching myself CG animation since the summer of 2006, and this is my first take at a more complex scene. Even though it's far from a short animated film, I'll be tackling something like that in my next big project. I created/rendered this scene at 1280x720 on a Gateway MX series laptop with 64MB of shared video memory, 1GB of DDR memory, and a 1.6 GHz single-core CPU. During January 2009, I purchased a laptop from HP with 512 MB of dedicated video memory, a dual core CPU at 2.1 Ghz, and 4GB of DDR2 RAM; much better of course. I've always liked the idea of portability, so I chose laptops. However, such devices pay a large hit in performance for small size. My current and all future computers I do this sort of work on will be desktops; I order the parts from newegg.com and put the system together myself. It's cheaper, fun, and I know exactly what I'm getting. Deinonychus was a wolf-sized predator equipped with a lethal array of meat-hook-like claws on its hands, a mouth full of small, sharp serrated teeth, and a hug sickle-shaped claw on the second tow of each foot.
