I decided It was time for me to do another practice piece... I have been tampering a lot with traditional mediums (which I will eventually post up here) and I wanted to freehand paint a photo-realistic pic again in photoshop primarily as a self-discipline study of color on skin in portraits. The main purpose is to attempt to "see" the various colors that exist in a face from all of the different light sources and reflections in the environment around. For the purpose of exercise, the reference photo is set off to the side where I can look at it and try to re-create (from scratch) ---not only the exact mapping and proportions, but also the colors from just straight default photoshop swatches. (No eye-drop sampler off of the photo! That would defeat the purpose of this disciplinary exercise!) I am trying to train my eyes to see the ever so subtle colors that appear in a portrait in even the smoothness of a baby's face. Ironically, this is a lot harder than any other photo real portrait I have done digitally so-far, because there is no heavy detail to help set any heavy contrasts... But instead, extremely subtle shifts in not only fine skin detail, but microscopic doses of color. Once again--- completely freehand drawn in photoshop CS, using a Wacom Tablet. The purpose of this video was to demonstrate the comparative speed of shot between the English longbow, and the hand-spanned crossbow. As you can see in the video, the crossbow wasn't as slow to shoot as many people make out, but please keep in mind that the hand-spanned crossbow is a very quick weapon to span and shoot, much quicker that the other types of crossbow in use during the middle ages. Due to the heavy construction of the crossbow's steel prod, or bow, and the short draw length along the crossbow's tiller, the crossbow was a very inefficient weapon. Although the crossbow in the video has a draw weight of around 130 lb, compared to the longbow's 110 lb, our crossbow could only manage a maximum range of some 90 yards, compared to the longbow's 250 yards. To compensate, medieval crossbows were often many times the draw weight of the bow used here, and thus required the use of a belt and hook, Goats Foot or Windlass to draw. This made them much slower than the longbow. Due to this slow re-loading crossbowmen often sheltered behind Pavises, or large shields, while re-loading on an open battlefield. These shortcomings were not an issue, however, when the crossbow was used to defend walled towns or castles, a situation where the crossbow excelled. Lost in Dreams is a nice little puzzle/solo dungeon crawl in the Fade that is well-thought out and unique. This series of videos, created on my second playthrough (which I'm still doing, right now) of Dragon Age, shows the perfect and most efficient method of obtaining everything and defeating all foes, in the shortest time possible. Whilst clearing out the tower of the Circle of Magi at Lake Calenhad, the Hero and team encounters a Sloth Demon that imprisons them in its own realm within the Fade, thus starting the quest: Lost in Dreams. The Hero has to explore this realm, freeing the rest of the party and finding a way to defeat the Sloth Demon to escape the Fade... The Circle Tower is the third place I recommend visiting after leaving Lothering (the first would be the Wonders of Thedas shop in Denerim, to pick up the Archivist's Sash; and the second would be the village of Honnleath, to recruit the mighty Shale), for the fact that it has several good items for any class - and also this quest, which allows the Hero to gain permanent bonuses to all attributes - 7 level-ups' worth, in fact. But after watching some reviews I heard that this free recording software is best suited for computers of low memory (My system has 2GB). I've recently switched to Bandicam (cropped unregistered), which I so far find to be the best free recording software for low RAM computers.
