This episode of Fox Business aired on Mar 12, 2009. Basically, the caption under Schiff's ugly mug in the 1st part of the interview, which says "Schiff - Shutting Down Credit Is A Good Idea" already speaks volumes about his ignorance and sets the scene for the rubbish that is about to stream out of his mouth. No, shutting down credit is NOT a good idea - in fact, its the dumbest idea ever. Refer to the Milton Friedman video I posted earlier in which the Grandmaster of Economics attributes the root cause of the Great Depression to credit contraction. Credit is already dropping at an alarming 5% per month and this idiot Schiff wants to further squeeze credit. Meredith Whitney being a solid banking analyst understands this concept very well. Of course, Peter Schiff goes on to defame Whitney and says how shes getting it all wrong when he is the one who is totally wrong. Then, Schiff talks about how you need savings for credit and capital formation. This is completely false and underlines the fact that Schiff dosen't even understand how the US monetary or banking system works. Savings play such a miniscule role in modern day credit and capital formation, its not really worth mentioning. Banks allocate credit first, then they allocate reserves to underpin the loan, under the fractional reserve banking system - and the reserves are rarely savings-based - there are all sorts of alternative collateralization units nowadays.
