Dave 'Honeyboy' Edwards - Sweet Home Chicago/Dust my broom (2001) 3.92 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 10582 exibições David "Honeyboy" Edwards embodies the continuity from blues' Mississippi Delta roots to electric Chicago blues. Honeyboy's string-snapping guitar riffs and soulful voice harken back to his friends and teachers Charley Patton, Big Joe Williams, Tommy Johnson, and Robert Johnson, who first forged the blues in Delta jooks and at country suppers during the Depression. Edwards crisscrossed the South in the company of such blues giants as Big Walter Horton, Sonny Boy Williamson, and Little Walter Jacobs. He settled in Chicago, where a post-WWII electric blues boom set the pattern for modern rock and roll. This recording captures him in a relaxed, unplugged, solo moment. Deep Delta blues from Robert Johnson's sidekick, whose searing vocals and stinging guitar bridge pre-war and post-war blues. Reissue of Folkways 3539. 44 minutes. 26-page booklet. Official Honeyboy Trailer 3.78 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 4954 exibições DVD available Soon. "Like" Honeyboy Film Page on Facebook for more info. "The last of the original Mississippi Delta Blues musicians but unfortunately recently departed, David Honeyboy Edwards was a man who not only sang of hard times, he lived them. First hand accounts of sharecropping, jumping freight trains and playing juke joints by Edwards and his generation are soon to be lost, leaving such stories to history books and archival films. Originally intended to preserve this rare view of Americana, the film Honeyboy does that and much more." Directed by Scott Taradash and Produced by Rob Perkins, this film also features Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, Joe Perry of Aerosmith, BB King, Robert Cray and Lucinda Williams.. + Informações |

David 'Honeyboy' Edwards - Sweet Home Chicago (2007) 3.22 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 3338 exibições 2007 GRAMMY AWARD-WINNING BEST TRADITIONAL BLUES ALBUM OF THE YEAR HISTORY IN THE MAKING Once in a lifetime you may experience a brief moment when the stars align and something truly extraordinary happens. This was the case in October 2004, when four of the greatest living blues legends were assembled in Dallas, Texas for one incomparable night of music. At the time they ranged in age from 89 to 94 and all had received the National Endowment for the Arts Heritage Fellowship Award, the highest honor in the USA for traditional arts. These musicians have devoted their entire life to playing the blues, and staging such an epic event was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Once reunited, the old magic reemerged. It was if they were long lost school buddies. There was a time when Dallas was viewed as an epicenter for the blues. It was home to such legends as Blind Lemon Jefferson, Huddie Ledbelly Ledbetter, T-Bone Walker, Freddie King and others. The Longhorn Ballroom in Dallas and the Magnolia in Fort Worth catered to well-dressed audiences who were transfixed by the soulful shouts of Johnny Taylor, the screaming Telecaster of Albert Collins and the eerie cry of Albert King s Flying V. On October 16th, 2004, Dallas once again reclaimed its place as a blues capitol when the four remaining elders of the blues reunited on the stage of the historic Majestic Theater for a grand performance. It was a night that was 90 years in the making, but will live on for eternity. HENRY JAMES .... + Informações |

David Honeyboy Edwards at BB Kings 2007 29.25 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 201 exibições The 2011 passing of 96 year old delta bluesman Honeyboy Edwards marked the end of an era for the blues. Honeyboy was the last of a generation of performing musicians who witnessed the first generation bluesmen up close and personal. Honeyboy was a contemporary (and friend) of the most famous and enigmatic blues pioneer of all time, Robert Johnson, and essentially brought forward his authentic acoustic delta guitar and vocal stylings to the masses for the remainder of his life. A two time grammy award winner, he was a walking encyclopedia, having retained his memory til the very end, recounting any and all events from his past with a sparkle in his eye to anyone who would ask, with details as vivid as if they had happened only yesterday. Seen here performing with his longtime manager and friend, Michael Frank on harmonica and Rocky Lawrence, also a longtime Honeyboy sideman, on second guitar. Honeyboy's guitar playing had certainly changed as the years progressed, but his 1942 Library of Congress recordings are still available on Earwig Music as"Honeyboy Edwards Delta Bluesman", a must have for not only blues lovers but every guitarist and/or fan of modern American music -- because this is one of the finest examples of where American blues, jazz and rock originated. Also a must have is the Honeyboy Autobiography, "The World Don't Owe Me Nothing". It is an amazing book about an amazing man. I had the honor of knowing and performing onstage with Honeyboy (as part of the .... + Informações |

David Honeyboy Edwards 1.MOV 3.00 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 1458 exibições David "Honeyboy" Edwards - at the Juke Joint Festival, April 16, 2011, Clarksdale, Mississippi. The Honeyboy Band: Michael Frank -- harp Michael Packer - guitar John Becton - bass Ed Jackson - percussion Guy Powell -- drums David "Honeyboy" Edwards was born June 28, 1915 in Shaw, Mississippi. Honeyboy is one of the last living links to Robert Johnson, and one of the last original acoustic Delta blues players. He is a living legend, and his story is truly part of history. He is the real deal. Honeyboy was a part of many of the seminal moments of the blues. As Honeyboy writes in "The World Don't Own Me Nothing", "...it was in '29 when Tommy Johnson come down from Crystal Springs, Mississippi. He was just a little guy, tan colored, easy-going; but he drank a whole lot. At nighttime, we'd go there and listen to Tommy Johnson play." Honeyboy continues, " Listening to Tommy, that's when I really learned something about how to play guitar." Honeyboy's life has been intertwined with almost every major blues legend, including Robert Johnson, Charlie Patton, Big Joe Williams, Rice "Sonny Boy Williamson" Miller, Howlin' Wolf, Peetie Wheatstraw, Sunnyland Slim, Lightnin' Hopkins, Big Walter, Little Walter, Magic Sam, Muddy Waters, and ... well, let's just say the list goes on darn near forever! In 1942, Alan Lomax recorded Honeyboy in Clarksdale, Mississippi for the Library of Congress. He recorded a total of fifteen sides of Honeyboy's music. Honeyboy didn't record again .... + Informações |

Worried Life Blues by David 'Honeyboy' Edwards.wmv 3.02 min. | 0 avaliação | 54 exibições Video by www.blues-for-guitar.com. Recorded by Alan Lomax in Clarksdale, Mississippi, July 20, 1942. David 'Honeyboy' Edwards' take on 'Worried Life Blues' (itself a cousin of 'Someday Baby Blues') is stunning. Layered, textured and demonstrating a host of blues guitar techniques, it sounds like the work of a finely-matched duo, not the outpourings of a single man.. + Informações |
