Tanglewood Tree, by Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer, Cottonwood Art Festival, 2000 4.63 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 6165 exibições (check out twoodburn's channel for more Dave & Tracy) If you like what you hear, I encourage you to check out Tracy's solo work, which is superlative, along with the four amazing albums recorded by this remarkable duo: WHEN I GO (1998) TANGLEWOOD TREE (2000) DRUM HAT BUDDHA (2001) SEVEN IS THE NUMBER (2006). Note: This is essentially the duo's re-recording of Dave's debut album SNAKE-HANDLIN' MAN (1995), which Dave released before he met Tracy. I believe they were working on this at the time of Dave's death, with all tracks recorded, and the collection was subsequently mixed and mastered over the intervening three or four years following Dave's passing. It's a gem of an album (as is Dave's debut, which is, sadly, out of print). Please visit TracyGrammer dot com for more information. (I'm not affiliated with her in any way. Just a huge fan.) love is a tanglewood tree in a bower of green in a forest at dawn fair while the mockingbird sings, but she soon lifts her wings and the music is gone young lovers in the tall grass with their hearts open wide when the red summer poppies bloom but love is a trackless domain and the rumor of rain in the late afternoon love is an old root that creeps through the meadows of sleep when the long shadows cast thin as a vagrant young vine, it encircles and twines and it holds the heart fast catches dreamers in the wildwood with the stars in their eyes and the moon in their tousled hair but love is a light in the sky, and an unspoken lie and a .... + Informações |

Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer - Red (Elegy) 3.60 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 3882 exibições Probably my favorite song at the moment. Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer (HQ) - 03/17/99 - Part 1 of 2 7.30 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 3820 exibições "all-original, postmodern, mystical American folk" (check out twoodburn's channel for more Dave & Tracy) Set: The River, Where She Sleeps (partial) Farewell to St. Delores (complete) Don't Tread on Me (partial) Grand Prairie, TX (partial) For those of us who love Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer, this is the Dave and Tracy we saw first, fresh from recording "When I Go" and winning songwriting contests throughout the folk world (Kerrville, Napa Valley, Wildflower). The world was theirs and we heard genius instantly. I know I did; it was a beautiful and wholly unexpected experience when I saw Dave and Tracy for the first time, and this is the closest you'll get to seeing Dave and Tracy the way I and so many others saw them: on a simple raised stage in some dark folk club or rec center or converted church sanctuary. It felt like discovering a gem that no one else had even named. It was a thunderclap. My parents had Bob Dylan -- and though I love Dylan with all my heart, he wasn't (and isn't) mine. Dave's mine. I can't tell you how sad I was when he died. It's not often that you listen to a song or an artist, and that artist or song becomes yours: not in any sort of ownership sense, but as a piece of your viscera, your best heart. Dave was mine -- in that way, at least. If you like what you hear, I encourage you to check out Tracy's solo work, which is superlative, along with the four amazing albums recorded by this remarkable duo: WHEN I GO (1998) TANGLEWOOD TREE (2000) DRUM .... + Informações |

Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer : Better Way 4.18 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 353 exibições 'Better Way' is the opening track from a remarkable album called 'Little Blue Egg' (Red House), by Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer. Carter died suddenly of a heart attack in 2002. The tracks on this album come from old living-room tapes that Tracy found. "Listening to the CD, you realize just how much we lost when Carter died," wrote Jeff Burger in No Depression. Tracy Grammer's website: www.tracygrammer.com Tracy Grammer first saw Dave Carter perform at a songwriter's showcase shortly after she moved to Portland, Oregon. "As far as I was concerned, the rest of the room disappeared at that point. I knew instantly that I was in the presence of greatness." They met on their way out the door and by early 1998 had entered into a mutual "marriage in music." Their unique strengths came together in powerful synergy. Carter conjured mystical, romantic true fictions while Grammer complemented his expert guitar, banjo and voice with beautifully intoned violin, guitar, mandolin and emotionally potent vocals. Grammer's budding production skills led them to record their first album, "When I Go," in Grammer's kitchen. The simple, no frills recording built on Carter's impressive songwriting wins (at Kerrville, Wildflower and Napa Valley) and garnered the unknown duo a feature article in the LA Times. The prescient writer declared Carter "a major lyrical talent" and proclaimed their self-released album "discovery of the year." By 2000, they were signed to Signature Sounds and released .... + Informações |

Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer (HQ) - 03/17/99 - Part 2 of 2 9.13 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 3361 exibições Songs: Tanglewood Tree When I Go (check out twoodburn's channel for more Dave & Tracy) I hadn't heard of Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer when I read a review of them in the LA Times Calendar section, sometime in late '98. The occasion for the article was the duo's one-night stand in Anaheim later that week. The writer (I believe it was Chris Willman) quoted a stanza from the song "When I Go," which caught my attention: and when the sun comes trumpets from his red house in the east he will find a standing stone where long i chanted my release he will send his morning messenger to strike the hammer blow and i will crumble down uncountable in showers of crimson rubies when i go I called the phone number included in the article and bought a ticket. Probably the most memorable night of music I've ever witnessed. (Addendum: I looked up the article on the LA Times website, and it turns out I first saw them almost exactly a month before this performance was recorded: On February 20, 1999. The article can be found at: articles.latimes.com/1999/feb/16/entertainment/ca-8686) For those of us who love Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer, this is the Dave and Tracy we saw first, fresh from recording "When I Go" and winning songwriting contests throughout the folk world (Kerrville, Napa Valley, Wildflower). The Mountain ~ Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer 3.70 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 2827 exibições Music: from Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer's Tanglewood CD. Song: The Mountain. [Dave Carter (August 13, 1952-July 19, 2002) was an American folk singer-songwriter who described his style as "post-modern mythic American folk music." He was one half of the duo Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer, who were heralded as the new "voice of modern folk music" in the months before Carter's unexpected death in July 2002.] The Mountain I was born in a forked-tongued story, raised up by merchants and drugstore liars. Now I walk on the paths of glory, one foot in ice, one in fire. I see the mountain, the mountain comes to me, I see the mountain and that is all I see. Some poor prophet comes, some find solace, some lay him down in a junkyard bay. Some will chase us and some will call us, gone, gone, gone in a day. gone to the mountain, the mountain comes to me, i see the mountain and that is all I see. Miller take me and miller grind me, scatter my bones on the wild green tide. Maybe some roving bird will find me, over the wall we'll ride. over the mountain, the mountain comes to me, I see the mountain and that is all I see. Some build temples and some find altars, some come in tall hats and robes spun fine. Some in rags, some in gemstone halters, some push the pegs back in line. I see the mountain, the mountain comes to me, I see the mountain and that is all I see. Video: Sequoias, California taken in April Fantastic Beings, Jan 2011. + Informações |

Love is a Tanglewood Tree 3.68 min. | 4.960396 avaliação | 18734 exibições Please watch in High Quality! Another of my most favorite songs. Sadly, I first heard Dave Carter after he had left us. I remember the elation upon finding him and hearing his songwriting which contained words that spoke to my soul. Then the sadness to find out there would be no more. Fortunately for us, his partner, Tracy Grammer, continues to be the voice that brings us his songs...and so much more. Thank you Tracy! This is their classic, Tanglewood Tree, humbly visualized and brought to you here. If you enjoy this song, please visit these websites to hear and purchase more. Tracy tours constantly and is a fixture at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival and other East Coast venues. If you take the time to see her in concert I have no doubt you will be forever changed, like me. www.daveandtracy.com/ www.myspace.com/tracygrammer/ www.tracygrammer.com/ www.signaturesounds.com/ Tanglewood Tree love is a tanglewood tree in a bower of green in a forest at dawn fair while the mockingbird sings, but she soon lifts her wings and the music is gone young lovers in the tall grass with their hearts open wide when the red summer poppies bloom but love is a trackless domain and the rumor of rain in the late afternoon love is an old root that creeps through the meadows of sleep when the long shadows cast thin as a vagrant young vine, it encircles and twines and it holds the heart fast catches dreamers in the wildwood with the stars in their eyes and the moon in their tousled hair but love is a .... + Informações |
