The Black Angels are a psychedelic rock band from Austin, Texas. Formed in May 2004, the band's name derives from the Velvet Underground song "The Black Angel's Death Song". In 2005, the Black Angels were featured on a dual-disc compilation album of psychedelic music called Psychedelica Vol.1 from Northern Star Records. This, along with the growing popularity of their MySpace page, gave the band a big jump in popularity in the underground scene. On Friday, August 5, 2007, they played at Lollapalooza in Chicago. Among other venues, they have also played at SXSW 2006 & 2008 and All Tomorrow's Parties 2008. Touring partners have included the blues rock band The Black Keys, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Warlocks, Roky Erickson, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Queens of the Stone Age, The Raveonettes and Wolfmother. The group's debut LP Passover was generally well received in the underground independent rock community and was noted for its dark tones and lyrical content. A review of Passover described them as "Walking in the shadows cast by Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized mastermind Jason Pierce" and compared them to The Warlocks and Black Mountain, also invoking "dirges" reminiscent of both The Velvet Underground and the 13th Floor Elevators. Passover included a quote in the liner notes from Edvard Munch; "Illness, insanity, and death are the black angels that kept watch over my cradle and accompanied me all my life." This is a 1960s anti-war song...a cover version by me... ^o^ I've recently watched a great video clip on Youtube, it's showing Rowena Cortes ???& Louie Castro ???(very famous singers from Hong Kong ^^) performing this song LIVE (with live band) on a TV show (back in the 70s) ...I was very touched by their performance, both Rowena & Louie have beeeeeeeautiful voices and their live performance was so excellent and perfect!!!!!!!!! ^o^ It was actually my first time listening to the song and I was really really inspired by their singing! (I have watched their clip for over 10 to 20 times by now, hee hee!) ... I like their version so much that it made me really want to try singing the song (for fun ^^), haha! I managed to find an instrumental/karaoke version of the song on one of those karaoke music supplying websites, so I bought the music online right away and learnt it =). In this cover version of mine, I have mixed 2 to 4 of my recorded tracks throughout the whole song to produce something like a "group singing" effect ^^. Marilyn McCoo (born September 30, 1943 in Jersey City, New Jersey) is an American singer and actress, who is well known for being the lead female vocalist in the group The 5th Dimension, as well as hosting the 1980s music countdown series Solid Gold. In the early and mid-1960s, McCoo was a member of the Hi-Fi's, who often opened for Ray Charles. This group included Lamonte McLemore, who would join McCoo in The 5th Dimension, as well as Harry Elston and Floyd Butler, who would go on to form The Friends of Distinction. She met Billy Davis, Jr. in 1966 when he established the group, then called The Versatiles. The group's first big hit was with 1967's "Up, Up and Away", written by Jimmy Webb. The song won four 1968 Grammy Awards and was the title track to 5th Dimension's first hit LP. Their follow-up was a cover of Laura Nyro's "Stoned Soul Picnic". "Wedding Bell Blues", featuring McCoo's most prominent vocal of that period, and a medley of "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In" (from the musical Hair) both reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1969 with "Aquarius/Let The Sun Shine In" winning the Grammy for 'Record of the Year'. Rainbow was formed by Ritchie Blackmore in 1975 after he left Deep Purple at the height of their fame. They were instantly successful and released a string of hit albums, with an ever changing line-up, between 1975 and 1983 when Blackmore broke up the group to join the reformed Deep Purple. This concert from their European tour in 1977 features the line-up responsible for the "Long Live Rock'n'Roll" album released later that year, including vocalist Ronnie James Dio and drummer Cozy Powell. Blackmore had to be smuggled out of Austria after a trouble with the police at a gig two nights earlier and was very late arriving in Munich, all of which seemed to inspire both the band and the audience to create a truly remarkable gig. For thousands of years the mountain we call Sawnee has stood as a highly visible landmark and an anchor to inhabitants of North Georgia. It is arguably the southernmost summit in the Blue Ridge range, making it the first link in the Appalachian chain, which reaches all the way to Maine. On the eastern ridge, runoff from boulders balanced on a rock outcropping slowly carved three uniform depressions in the stone. Those boulders eventually weathered, split and toppled down the north face, exposing what we now call the Indian Seats. The seats and the adjacent natural clearing may have served some ceremonial purpose for Native American inhabitants (Woodlands culture, later replaced by Mississippian, Muscogean, Creek and Cherokee) dating as far back as c. 500 BCE When white settlers entered the area in the early 1800s, a minor chief of the Cherokee Nation welcomed them. A skilled carpenter and farmer, Sawnee helped them build their homes in the area around present-day Cumming. Vesuvio is a volcano mountain in Naples. This song is by the European group "Spaccanapoli" The pictures are all from Deviant Art web site. This song was used in the Sopranos to describe the affair that was about to happen between Carmella and Furio. I think the words fit that situation perfectly. And I was captivated by this song when I heard it on there and it took me a long time to find out who it was by and what it was about. A lecture by Leslie Preston Day given at the Penn Museum on April 13th, 2011. The complex palatial society of the island of Crete in the Bronze Age still dazzles us today, but what happened to this society after the palaces fell and before the rise of the Greek city-state (1200-700 BCE)? What was life like in this transitional period? In the eastern part of the island, people fled up into almost inaccessible mountain sites and maintained little contact with the rest of the Aegean, at least in the later part of the period. The lecture will bring together evidence from a variety of recent excavations at Halasmenos, Vasiliki, Knossos, Thronos/Sybrita, and Chania, but will focus on two major sites in eastern Crete: Karphi and Kavousi. The British excavations at Karphi in the 1930's brought to light a large town of this period, and recent study by the author and a new group of British and European scholars are making clearer the nature of that settlement. Excavations at Kavousi have produced three settlements and cemeteries that span the entire period: Vronda, Kastro, and Azoria. Examination of the material from these two sites tells us much about the social structure, political organization, religious beliefs, technology, and burial customs of the people and suggests that while there are differences among the communities, there is also a great deal of homogeneity.. + Informações
