This was a twenty four hour project that I couldn't leave alone, and centres on the slash subtext between Andrew McCarthy's Blaine and James Spader's Steff, supposedly best friends in the film, but with opposing outlooks on life. As I put this together, I began to realise that Blaine certainly could be seen as being rather envious of Steff, and gives him the eye on any number of occasions, and so the idea of a narrative began to take shape. What if Blaine DOES love Steff, and Steff goes through various stages of denial until he realises he feels the same way? A version of the song is in the film - but I've used the original version by Nik Kershaw, and there's bound to be another video on the way about Steff's point of view on Blaine, but sorry, Molly Ringwald fans, she doesn't figure much in this.
