First up is the beautiful Life Before the Earthquake by German Mario Hammer. Featuring the vocals of Asheni, the original breakbeat version quickly became one of the championed Coldharbour tracks of 2011. And following the release of his debut album, including the impressive Fallen Angel, fellow countryman Dennis Sheperd takes the mantle and provides a more traditional 4/4 trance take. South America is given an opportunity to shine through the remaining tracks on offer. First up is a familiar contributor to the label in the form of Brazil's Danilo Ercole. With tracks such as Harbour and Below the Equator Line (the latter remixed by Basil O'Glue appearing on Prague '11), he returns with Water That Birds Don't Drink, fusing his imitable melodies and tech influences to impressive manner once again. And last but not least, the focus turns to Colombia where Medellin native Jessus makes his Coldharbour debut. Last visiting in 2008 with 'Amsterdam', this new outing sends the series in the opposite direction and homes in on one of Eastern Europe's most awe-inspiring capitals... Just over a month ago, during the final stages of his set at Transmission - Future Cities, Markus Schulz held a poster up to the audience. Caught by the cameras feeding the O2 arena's video screens the image went stage to ceiling. That poster bore the front cover of 'Prague'11' and in holding it aloft Schulz had announced that the Czech capital would be the destination for his 2011 city compilation. Having played there twice a year, every year for the last five, it's certainly a place he's developed a strong association with. His regular visits over the period have positioned him well to see the explosion in the popularity of trance and progressive -- a rise Markus gauges visit-on-visit has being "close to exponential"... Regularly contributing to the label with tech-laiden yet beautiful melodies, Danilo's previous efforts such as Harbour, Below the Equator Line and Water That Birds Don't Drink helped establish his credentials as someone to keep an eye on. Setting the tone for disc 1 of Los Angeles '12, A Man with Two Names immediately registered itself as a fan favorite, with the listener taken on a journey combining deep moments with euphoric. Danilo's own Club Mix gives the track a more uptempo feel, and provides a nice alternative to choose when planning DJ sets. Quasar is also found on LA's first disc output, and follows in similar vein to Water That Birds Don't Drink. Throbbing basslines with an incredibly catchy melody is the order here. To give the track a different dimension, Danilo invited fellow Coldharbour alumnus Styller, fresh from a huge release of his own on the label in the form of All That Remains and Quantum Mechanics, to give Quasar a nice melodic flavour.
