Tripping Daisy were an alternative grunge band which formed in Texas, releasing their first album in 1992 and disbanding in 1999. The band had members who were in the band for this whole period: Tim DeLaughter (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards) Wes Berggren (guitars, cello, keyboards) and Mark Pirro (bass). Ben Curtis played drums and Philip Karnats played guitar, trumpet and banjo during the last two years of the band. According to RollingStone, born and bred on a steady diet of DIY ethic and determination, Tripping Daisy toured relentlessly until they gained some success. Even after the addition of a paycheck and corporate backing in 1994, the band maintained some aspects of their garage band charm. I heard 'Sonic Bloom' on radio (JJJ) and it got me interested in this band. It is from their 1998 album, 'Jesus Hits Like The Atom Bomb'. DeLaughter has been quoted as saying that the album "is the band at their best". Tripping Daisy tinkered with an eclectic smattering of instruments, including a dulcimer, a banjo and an old record player that Delaughter happened to be messing with while tapes were rolling. Ripping yellowed pages out of his private diary, Delaughter also lent intimate lyrics to the album. Sadly, Wes Berggren died in 1999, and the band disbanded, feeling it could not continue without him. DeLaughter and Pirro went on to form Polyphonic Spree.
