In this video I am testing a 455kHz BFO circuit (beat frequency oscillator) that provide the single side band (SSB) demodulation in my home made (home brew) AM receiver. Here I am copying Hams operating in SSB at 40m band. I show here an external oscillator (battery powered) that I assembled and is based on IC TEA5570 and a 455kHz IF transform. This oscillator generates a sine signal of almost 455kHz that I insert to the IF stage of receiver. In the SSB modulation process, the carrier and one of 2 lateral bands are suppressed and transmitted only on of lateral bands. What I do here is to re-create the carrier that was removed. My documentary of the band RIGGS from Atlanta, GA that was active from 1979 through 1985. RIGGS released one album and two songs Heartbeat and Radar Rider on the 1981 soundtrack Heavy Metal. I got an opportunity to do a story on RIGGS in my documentary class at the Art Institute of Atlanta. LeRoy Conner did the camera & lighting, Shelby McDaniel is the producer and I Bryan Ridarick did the Editing. This project was done January March 2009.Even though this project was only for five minutes, I will be extending this project on their RIGGS 2008 reunion benefit show and future reunions. A video clip of me, KI7F, calling CQ on 40 meters just after 11 AM. The 40 meter band was pretty much dead at that time of day. The best time would have been in the late evening on 40 meters. So far, since I have purchased the Yaesu FT-950 radio a few weeks ago, I have worked various California stations, Seattle, Washington, Oklahoma on 40 meter CW. I normally operate at the 20 watt power level. A few nights ago I worked a station in Kona, Hawaii on the 20 meter band using the PSK-31 mode and only running 20 watts of power to my indoor 20 meter dipole antenna! In the video I was first demonstrating sending CW on the straight key, then on the next CQ call, I accessed the pre-canned CQ message from the Yaesu FT-950 built in memory keyer using the Yaesu FH-2 Remote control keypad. I used the BK-IN (Break In) mode on CW which is why the relay switch keeps switching from receive to transmit mode. Kind of noisy I will admit. The box sitting on top of the Yaesu FT-950 HF transceiver is what is called a "RigBlaster" which is an interface box between my computer and the radio so that I can remotely control the Yaesu FT-950 from the computer as well as receive and send on digital modes such PSK-31, RTTY as well as CW mode. I also operate on the VHF and UHF bands such as two meters, 220 and 440 using either the Icom IC-2000H (Also used on Packet mode using the Kantronics KPC-9612 TNC) or my tri band Kenwood TH-F6A HT radio. I can also use the Yaesu FT-950 for general shortwave radio .... + Informações
