This is a fan-video I made for the song "Johnny Q" by the Crazy 8's. The 8's were a Pacific NW band that was big on college radio in the 80s and early 90s. I put this video together using public domain footage and some promo stills I found on their website. The song "Johnny Q" appears both on the 20th Anniversary release of their album Law & Order and their best of collection called Still Crazy After All These Beers. Both CDs are available at Amazon. The adidas Crazy 8 made its first debut as a bring back in 2005. Many will remember this as Kobe Bryant's first shoe, but since he left Adidas in 2002, the shoe had to change it's name from the KB-8 to the adidas Crazy 8. Something that also changed with the Crazy 8s from the original KB-8s was the absence of the Feet You Wear technology. A legal dispute held that technology back, but the shape of the Crazy 8s remained the same. In 2005 the original Crazy 8s were well received by many. Not only was the shoe a major hit back in 1997, but the shoe still sported the affordable $100 price tag. Following the success of the original colorway, the adidas Crazy 8 was released in, what some would say, too many other colorways that saw dismal sell throughs and clearance prices. adidas kept the Crazy 8 in the vault for several years before bringing the original colorway back in 2011. The shoes were once again a hit in their original colors as well as several other colorways. This is meant as a fitting tribute to a local Portland, OR. band. To understand the greatness and the creative arc of a group, you must get back to the essence of the band's history. Such is this video of an early portion of this band's career. The offering is here in two parts, and the second part is offered as an modern-day update to the viewer. The Crazy 8s ruled the road from 1983 through 1993 as their legend as a ska/funk/rock/reggae outfit made them a college radio success. Touring endlessly, they employed a grassroots indie approach, borne out of a series of successful indie recordings which earned respectable positions on the College Media Journal, Gavin Report, and Tower Records Pulse charts. Law and Order sold over 20000 copies and featured the track "Johnny Q." which became an instant hit becoming the Screamer of the Week at Alternative Lrock powerhouse WLIR-New York. Rolling Stone named the Crazy 8s as one of 9 Bands to Watch and locally (Portland, OR) the 8s had two songs , Touchy Situation and Luv'll Find You go Top 20 at Z100 while being consistently featured on KINK 102 FM's "Local Music Spotlight" and being named to 92.3 FM KGONs list of The Top 920 Bands of All-Time. All the while performing with acts including The Clash, The Neville Brothers, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Oingo Boingo, The Violent Femmes, UB40, The English Beat and Steel Pulse to name a few. The adidas Crazy 8 was a wonderful performance model back in '98 and they still play well today. Traction -- 8/10 Cushion -- 8.5/10 Material -- 9.5/10 Fit -- 9.5/10 Ventilation -- 0/10 Overall -- 7.1 Value -- At $100, this is a fantastic purchase for both performance and casual use. Despite the overall 7.1 score, these are highly recommended in my personal opinion. Please take note that the reason the overall score is 7.1 is only due to the fact that I rated the ventilation at 0. Even with this low ventilation score, the fit made up for the lack of ventilation and helped keep the foot in place while playing in them perfectly. When looking at the rating scale, you must pay close attention to the areas that are important to YOU. Example: If you need traction and fit over all else, the rating given to those areas are what you should be looking at... not the overall score. Thanks for watching!!!
