About The Band: The group's name is derived from leftist politics; "Country Joe" was a popular name for Joseph Stalin in the 1940s, while "the fish" refers to Mao Tse Dung's statement that the true revolutionary must "swim among the people as a fish." The group began with the nucleus of "Country Joe" McDonald (lead vocals) and Barry "The Fish" Melton (lead guitar), recording and performing for the "Teach-In" protests against the Vietnam War in 1965. Co-founders McDonald and Melton added musicians as needed over the life of the band. By 1967, the group included Gary "Chicken" Hirsh (drums) (born in 1940, in Chicago, Illinois); David Cohen (keyboards) (born 8 April 1942, in Brooklyn, New York) and Bruce Barthol (bass) (born 11 November 1947 in Berkeley, California). The 1967 lineup lasted only two years, and by the 1969 music festival Woodstock, the lineup included Greg 'Duke' Dewey (drums), Mark Kapner (keyboards) and Doug Metzler (bass). The band came to perform an early example of psychedelic music. The LP "Electric Music for the Mind and Body" was very influential on early FM Radio in 1967. Country Joe and The Fish were featured in the 1971 Roger Corman directed film "GAS-SSS or In Order to Save the Earth We Had to Destroy It." This is the big drive-in rock out scene in which The Fish actually appeared. In between the two songs that is Country Joe himself appearing as AM Radio. Pretty much this is the scene that makes the movie worthwhile.. + Informações

Obviously a protest song against military action in Vietnam, this song convinced many songwriters and composers that the lyrics did not have to any sense -just as long as you can jazz it up with some studio production and some percussion. Even though the song is not my favorite, it still has some inventive qualities to it. "The End" by The Doors might have came into being because of this song; and Country Joe's vocal phrasing is very unique. He manages to sing several words at a time in places, and stresses on words such as "eyes", "sky" giving it the feel of an Indian campfire song. His performance at Woodstock was great and I enjoyed him. Love you Joe :). + Informações

Before I get another DMCA filed against me, I'd like to say I have put this online as I belive this can be counted as fair use, as it criticises Warner Bros. Remastered DVD version. I really hope someone at Warner sees this, and by the time the Blu-ray reissue is released, the audio problems that were encountered on the DVD release have been resolved!
