Corey Mitchell Hart (born May 31, 1962) is a Canadian musician, best known for such hit singles "Sunglasses at Night" and "Never Surrender". He has sold over 15 million records worldwide and scored nine consecutive US Billboard Top 40 hits. In Canada Hart has amassed 29 Top 40 hits, including 11 in the Top 10, over the course of his nearly 30 years in the music industry. 'Ben' by Michael Jackson was the first song I ever remember singing to. I was a painfully shy 10 year old, who on most nights alone in my bedroom would hold a math ruler as a makeshift microphone in front of the mirror singing this song with all my might. It was a lonely period in my young life. My mom and dad had split up but it wasn't their rupture so much that affected me. I was accustomed to never seeing my father around. It was moreover a feeling like I didn't belong or I couldn't belong in the world I lived in. This image of me may seem odd to you because you met me as the 'rock star' wearing sunglasses at night but it is an accurate description of Corey Hart as a little boy before I became the Corey Hart you met on MTV. I was acutely sensitive, clinging to my mom and older brother Robbie's every move. He dug playing sports so I tagged along with his gang of friends trying my hardest to keep up. I was extremely quick, dexterous but i wasn't strong at all. In fact, i was very skinny with bony little sticks for legs :) And i lacked self-confidence. But then suddenly everything changed... I can't tell you what day or the precise moment but that year I discovered music and my world opened up. I finally found the friend I could depend upon unconditionally. This music awakening and the song 'Ben' released by Michael Jackson in 1972 also coincided with me seeing on Quebec television a young singer named Rene Simard. We were about the same age. It was the 19th day of January. Our son Rain was born 2004. I have written songs for all four of our children: -'India' (Corey Hart CD 1996) -'Every Time You Smile' (Dante, Jade CD 1998) -'River' (This track has never been released. I will post one day on the website as a rough demo. I recorded it in Nassau, 2003.) The live performance of 'Rain' is the only existing recorded version of the song. When he was an infant I would sing this to him traditionally as a lullaby before going to sleep. I have so many heartfelt memories of these nights. Rain is very much like I was as a young boy. He is shy, tender, and his body physically resembles mine it's almost frightening! :) As a kid I was lithe, agile but very slender. It's strange yet wonderful how genetics are passed on from parent to child. Now that he is a mature seven! I rarely sing this song to him anymore but we still share our nightly rituals at bedtime, lying together for a while chattering away about the day's adventures and what's next on the horizon. Sometimes I wish, I was naive & innocent again, just like Rain. It all seems so easy. As the journey travels forward we invariably lose the essence of our innocence. Although I recognize it as a fundamental dynamic of natural evolution, it often makes me wistful, longing for when I once experienced the world as my son does now. All things pass in time. Whenever I doubt trading in my music career for parenthood, I think of this song and I have no regrets. I believe Rain .... + Informações
