Rudy Vallee and his Connecticut Yankees - Deep Night (1929) 3.33 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 20383 exibições Rudy Vallée (July 28,1901 July 3,1986) was an American singer, actor, bandleader, and entertainer. Born Hubert Prior Vallée in Island Pond, Vermont. Rudy grew up in Westbrook, Maine. In high school, he took up the saxophone and acquired the nickname "Rudy" after then famous saxophonist Rudy Wiedoeft. Having played drums in his high school band, Vallée played clarinet and saxophone in various bands around New England in his youth. In 1917, he decided to enlist for World War I, but was discharged when the Navy authorities found out that he was only 15. He enlisted in Portland, Maine on March 29, 1917, under the false birthdate of July 28, 1899. He was discharged at the Naval Training Station, Newport, Rhode Island, on May 17, 1917 with 41 days of active service. From 1924 through 1925, he played with the "Savoy Havana Band" in London. He then returned to the States to obtain a degree in Philosophy from Yale and to form his own band, "Rudy Vallée and the Connecticut Yankees." With this band, which featured two violins, two saxophones, a piano, a banjo and drums, he started taking vocals (supposedly reluctantly at first). He had a rather thin, wavering tenor voice and seemed more at home singing sweet ballads than attempting vocals on jazz numbers. However, his singing, together with his suave manner and handsome boyish looks, attracted great attention, especially from young women. Vallée was given a recording contract and in 1928, he started performing on the radio. Vallée .... + Informações |

Rudy Vallee and His Connecticut Yankees - There is a Tavern in the Town (1934) 2.97 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 1172 exibições Also known as "The Drunkard Song". Decades before Elvis Presley recorded the laughing version of "Are You Lonesome Tonight", Vallee released a similar record. Because this recording was so popular, the incident was re-enacted by Rudy and his band over the years, but on this first recording, the laughter is real. Charted at #6 in 1934. Song featured in "Sweet Music". Written by William H. Hills. Recorded September 7, 1934. B-side is "Lost in a Fog".. + Informações |

Montauk vs. CT Yankees (1 of 8) 0.73 min. | 0 avaliação | 287 exibições 10/16/2010 - Yanks Dominate Montauk at Andrews 38-19 The Yankees got back on track against their beefy foes from "Out East", moving to 4-1 in METNY divisional play and thickly in the hunt for the USA Rugby National Playoffs. After an early Montauk try, it was all Yankees, all day long! Kevin Spaulding let the way with a hat trick of try's, coupled with brilliant play from Man of the Match Andrew "Doc" Mallin. Our backs moved the ball well, with good coordination from John "Tubs" Tublin and Simon Hawkins at the halfbacks. Mike Sebastian also had great tackling and a 40 yard breakaway leading to another try from Doc. Country also had some long runs at the other wing with Nick Vornle scoring a try and kicking solidly from the fullback position. However, the real difference in the game was our total pack dominance. Montauk has a reputation for being a pack-oriented, big, hard-hitting team. We consistently beat their pack in the scrums, line-outs and loose play. We were wheeling from the loose-head, stopping their mauls and pushing them backwards, and taking their lineout ball. We also had a score out of the pack from Scott "Texas" Greenwald. Overall a great day on the A's with pack and back dominance.. + Informações |
