Clifford Curry, from Nashville, Tennessee, is one of the stalwarts of Soul Music, having been consistently recording for well over forty years and still performing regularly in Carolina, where he's a bit of a hero on the Beach Music scene. In fact, over the last twenty years, he's had tons of little tiny 45s on local Carolina labels to keep his career in full swing. This classic song from 1967, "I Can't Get Hold Of Myself", was a real favourite back in the late 1960s at the Twisted Wheel, at the very inception of the Northern Soul scene. It came out on Elf Records in America, but even got a British release on the Pama label. Clifford is a consummate professional, and was very excited to be a part of "The Strange World Of Northern Soul.". + Informações

This Northern Soul gem was tucked away on the B-side of Clifford Curry's 1968 release, I CAN'T GET A HOLD OF MYSELF. Curry's long career began in high school as a member of the Echoes, after which he joined the Five Pennies, for whom he wrote a 1956 release, "Mr. Moon". Curry was later a member of several groups, including the Hollyhocks (1957) and the Bubba Suggs Band (1957-1964). As Sweet Clifford he recorded for the Nashville-based Excello label, before beginning work with the Fabulous Six and the Contenders. He resumed his solo status in 1967 with the pulsating "She Shot A Hole In My Soul". An R&B hit that year, the song is better known in Britain for Geno Washington's tame cover version. Curry was unable to repeat this success, although he continues to record and perform on the thriving vintage soul-based "beach" music scene.. + Informações
