When Johnny Comes Marching Home 4.10 min. | 4.8643336 avaliação | 936978 exibições Noted Bandmaster Patrick Gilmore wrote the lyrics for this tune when his band was attached to the 24th Massachusetts Infantry. The tune is the same as the Irish song "Johnny, I Hardly Knew Ye" but there is some dispute as to which came first. "Johnny" did not refer to "Johnny Reb" but most likely Gilmore's future brother-in-law, a Union army officer. The story behind the song is on the Library of Congress website. lcweb2.loc.gov The first page of the song (Louis Lambert was a pseudonym of Gilmore's) bears a dedication at the top "to the army and the navy of the Union". This was not a Confederate song and more than a few people on youtube need to learn how to do some very simple research. library.duke.edu. + Informações |

Paroles/ Lyrics: When Johnny comes marching home again Hurrah! Hurrah! We'll give him a hearty welcome then Hurrah! Hurrah! The men will cheer and the boys will shout The ladies they will all turn out And we'll all feel gay When Johnny comes marching home. The old church bell will peal with joy Hurrah! Hurrah! To welcome home our darling boy, Hurrah! Hurrah! The village lads and lassies say With roses they will strew the way, And we'll all feel gay When Johnny comes marching home. Get ready for the Jubilee, Hurrah! Hurrah! We'll drink him a toast or two or three, Hurrah! Hurrah! The laurel wreath is ready now To place upon his loyal brow And we'll all feel gay When Johnny comes marching home. Let love and friendship on that day, Hurrah, hurrah! The Johnny so longed for in the song is Patrick Gilmore's future brother in-law a Union Light Artillery Captain named John O'Rourke. The song was written by Patrick for his sister Annie Gilmore as she longed for the safe return of her Captain from the Civil War Taped in Austin Texas. + Informações |

9th Virginia V 4.52 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 865 exibições In Allentown, PA; and event known as Whitehall or Camp Geiger took place. It had all day and night tacticals, a pretty nasty storm that took down our company fly tent, and trench warfare! It was really amazing; it was hard to take pictures though trying to be in the battle, but I was able to get some footage. The Webcast Historians - Visit the Third Winchester Battlefield 2.33 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 652 exibições A Webcast Historian production by the Daniel Morgan Middle School in Winchester, Virginia The videos you see here came out of a two week summer enrichment program, which involved twenty 8th grade students, three teachers, the Third Winchester battlefield, and some very cool technology. The students first become acquainted with their tools: the video camera, still camera, and the software they would be using to put their films together. The teachers then provided the students with background information on the Civil War using maps, objects, images, primary document texts, and the actual Civil War sites themselves. The students then spent two weeks filming at the Third Winchester battlefield. Once prepared each student produced an edited video encapsulating all that they learned and experienced. Eric Miller, Penny Oravec, and James Lupton should be commended for their successful efforts in using 21st century technology to help our students become interested in their 19th century American history.. + Informações |
