Charles Joseph Whitman (June 24, 1941 -- August 1, 1966), a student at the University of Texas at Austin, killed 14 people and wounded 32 others during a shooting rampage on and around the university's campus. Three were killed inside the University's tower and ten killed from the 29th floor observation deck of the University's 307 foot administrative building on August 1, 1966; one died a week later from her wounds. The tower massacre happened shortly after Whitman murdered his wife and mother at their homes. Jim Said No is a documentary about the lives of Jim and Lisa Kingsbury as they struggle to live with the disease ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Shot only a few times a month over a three year period, the film follows the couple and their son Jack as they are forced to adapt to the physical changes Jim must endure as the disease progresses within his body. While always hoping for a cure, they knew it was not likely to occur anytime soon. Therefore, they decided to fight it on their own, anyway they could. Together they have raised over $70000 towards ALS research. They started an annual Walk to Defeat ALS as well as an annual basketball tournament, The Kingsbury Classic, in their home town of Bangor, Maine. They also spent their own money to go Washington DC on two separate occasions to lobby Congress and were an integral part of helping to pass the ALS Registry Act. In addition to making this film, they have also created an informational website for others suffering from the disease (ALSANDHOPE.COM). This is their story.. + Informações

"New Horizons: Brazil" is a documentary by Maine filmmaker Chas Bruns that sheds light on the lives of children living on the streets of Brazil. The film follows Maine artist John Whalley and his wife and actress Ellen Whalley as they travel to central Brazil to live and work with boys who were saved from a life on the streets by the Florida based NGO, Renaissance International. Coined "The New Horizons Youth Ranch" by founder Steve Solomon, the 150 acre tract of land has become home to over 200 children since 1991. The ranch includes home-dormitories, a dining hall, administrative offices, a chapel, classroom buildings, as well as athletic fields where the boys play soccer, volleyball, baseball and basketball. In addition, there is a pond for swimming, a nature trail complete with vines for swinging and several streams and waterfalls.
