The invasive brown alga, Sargassum muticum, and Charles Ray's contemporary statue "Boy with Frog" valiantly guard François Pinault's Punta della Dogana Center for Contemporary Art in Venice, Italy. They all go after the same, an opportunity to establish themselves in this world. While the seaweed has already reached its destination through ship ballast water originating from Far Eastern waters, the young boy looks out at the wide open sea in front of him, looking inward and forward to embark on the next stage of life's voyage. Just as the frog, an amphibian, metamorphoses from a tadpole and lives as comfortably in as outside the water, so too does the young boy feel empowered and aggrandized by this new sensation of becoming a young man, of trusting the future. He has become the frog. It's as if the contour of the boy's body, along with the surrounding protective glass box, is perfectly in tune with the vertical and horizontal lines of the Dogana building behind it. Even the position of the frog in the boy's hand parallels the position of the wind vane in Fortuna's hand atop the Dogana building. Or is it the other way around? Everything in this clip points to a crossroad of sorts: the young boy realizing he's becoming a man; the Punta della Dogana itself, located at the merger of the Grand Canal and Giudecca Canal; the Art Center, showcasing contemporary art in a city that breathes old art; the tenaciously proliferating Sargassum, soon to be extracted for biofuel; the .... + Informações

Collected and edited by harmonica4u "Born, Charles Ray McCoy, his family left West Virginia when he was a boy to live in Miami, Florida. At age eight, he began playing the harmonica, developing his skills to where he decided to pursue a career in music. In 1959, the eighteen-year-old McCoy moved to Nashville, Tennessee, the country music capital of the world. Unable to find much work as a session player, he returned home but refused to give up on his dream and enrolled in courses on musical theory while taking vocal lessons. His determination paid off when he was given a chance by Monument Records to play the harmonica on the 1961 Roy Orbison recording of "Candy Man". The song opens with a harmonica riff that is an integral part of the musical production. As a result of this successful collaboration, the door was opened wide for McCoy and he went on to work as a sessions player for some of the other big names in music including Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Paul Simon, Ringo Starr and Ween. As well as his hamonica playing, McCoy is also proficient on the guitar (notably, his acoustic work on Bob Dylan's "Desolation Row", from the album Highway 61 Revisited, and "Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands", from the album Blonde on Blonde,) bass (on all the tracks from Bob Dylan's John Wesley Harding,) keyboards, and drums plus on several wind and brass instruments. Born in Georgia in 1930 he was one of the first performers to mix gospel, R & B and jazz to create a new form of black pop music that would come to be known as soul. His voice and delivery were strikingly different and instantly recognisable. He had his first hits in the early 50's and was still hitting the charts into the 21st century. His death in June 2004 from liver disease was front page news around the world. This concert was filmed at the Montreux Jazz Festival on July 19, 1997 and features Ray Charles and his orchestra, led by sax player Al Jackson, and of course The Raelettes.
