Here's a piece that rarely get mentioned today. It was composed by Charles K. Harris in 1891. It was a smashing hit in the 1893 wolrd Exhibition in Chicago playing locally 24 hrs a day for the length of the exhibition and selling in excess of five million copies (which in that period of time was of course utterly remarcable). The piece is a very slow waltz, as slow as you can imagine people being in the early hours after a ball, feet aching, too much to drink and tiredness overtaking, but still the night has very subtly left these warm memories the participants will never forget. The Last Waltz was a concert by the rock group The Band, held on American Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1976, at Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco.
