This video was shot on Dec 14th after a hydraulic line failure in our 404 Titan forced us to make an emergency landing with the gear up. The emergency blow down bottle had a valve malfunction as well so there was no option available from that point on other than to find a place to sit it down. At the end of the slide down the runway there was a small fire on-board which I extinguished before exiting the aircraft with my crew member closely on my six . I'd like to send my thanks out to my crew member, the engineers in Wichita and to the ground crew mechanics at Mountain Home Airport in Arkansas for their assistance in relaying the communications with the engineers at Cessna, and for their mechanical knowledge that they shared with us during this unusual situation we found ourselves in. This is a video that documents a slightly unusual pattern during practice at Norwood (KOWD). I decided to include part of the run-up in this video and it starts after I had gone through some of the checklist. There were some faster planes departing Norwood at the time and so I offered to begin my run-up on a connecting taxiway while the jets passed me on their way to the active runway. So when this video begins, I had done some of the run-up in the Cessna 172SP but you'll hear me given instruction by ground to proceed to the runway to finish things before takeoff. Once out there I finish the run-up checklist and it's important to note that after I call the tower for takeoff, he mistakenly starts to call be a Cherokee, and then catches himself. This becomes relevant a little while later. So I'm cleared for the pattern and I head out. It's a right pattern for 35 at Norwood, and on the downwind as I'm getting things stable, just before making my mid-field call, there is a call from the tower to Cherokee 2081-Sierra. As you will see, I don't answer. I remember wondering how I had missed that call, but now it's clear that I automatically ignored it because it began with Cherokee. A few seconds later he calls me back with call sign only and we get things straightened away. Because of traffic, the tower asked me to do a 360 in the patter for spacing. Not sure I'd ever done this before, but it made sense and as a bonus, it now gives you a better view of Boston in the distance and .... + Informações

Take off at 9 knots gusting xwc. Followed by 55 and mostly turbulent minutes towards my destination. On approach to landing wind was directly across runway and gusting to 18 knots. Cessna 172 POH only ever mentioned 15 knots demonstrated xwc. Hmm.. Not much of the runway ahead: 18x600. Will the insurance pay for any damage? The thermals and surface turbulence could be guessed and generally dies closer to the ground. Not the gusting winds. The most tricky ones just start when controls are mashy. So let's see how far down can we go before variometer becomes gusted. (watching it in HD 480+ also check the 30 knot rated windsock on the apron in the full up position) Got away, then was tempted for another try, but since I was piloting along for an hour in turbulence and had to carry on an hour return, decided to save my energy and head for a windy landing at home. A 10 kt gust, if waved, changes wind +10 kt to -10 kt momentarily, loosing you 20 kt, if sideways then initiating a feather roll, in no particular order .... + Informações
