In early 1928, the Schneider Trophy rules were changed. It was agreed that it should be held every two years instead of annually in order to provide more time for competing nations to build and test their new machines. This was a great help to Mitchell as he readied himself for the defence of the Trophy at Cowes. When beginning work on the design for the Supermarine S.6, Mitchell made an important decision, one that he had held back on in 1927. He felt that the Napier Lion engines, although always reliable, had been developed to their limit. He decided he needed a new manufacturer and sought the advice of Maj. GP Bulman, an Air Ministry official responsible for the development of aero-engines. Bulman confirmed his thoughts, Mitchell approached Sir Henry Royce, and so began a partnership between Supermarine and Rolls-Royce that was to prove invaluable, not only in the creation of race engines but later in the production of both the Merlin and Griffin engines that so successfully powered the Spitfire. Rolls-Royce provided assurances that they could supply an engine of at least 1500hp, with development up to 1900hp, and, most importantly, little or no increase in frontal area. Supermarine gave Rolls-Royce only six months to produce the power unit and the result was a fully tested "R" engine. Mitchell designed the S.6 around the basic streamlined shape of the earlier S.5, moving the floats forward to carry the extra weight of the "R" engine when on water. Carrie Schneider (b.1979) is an American visual artist whose photographic work and videos explore and build narratives of the self in relation to others and otherness. The result is highly disciplined and intense as she uses herself to embody situations of intimacy and desire, such as awkward sibling relations. Schneiders residency was organised in collaboration with the Finnish Museum of Photography where she participated in the exhibition Tense Territories: Contemporary Aspects on Territorial Behaviours, 22.1.24.5.2009. HIAP (Helsinki International Artist-in-residence Programme) is the largest international residency centre in Finland and the only one operating in the capital. The residency programme is open to artists from various disciplines within the visual arts and gives priority to those whose interests lie within contemporary culture. Residencies include a working period of 1-3 months in purpose-built studios located in the cultural hub of the Cable Factory. Should I read poems written in the first person by women? I don't know. The rule I follow is that if I feel comfortable about reading it, then I read it. Somewhat similar to George Martin he enjoyed mixing orchestral music with sound effects. Miller was particularly intrigued with environmental & railroad sounds. His orchestra lasted for several decades, and even though uncredited, musicians such as drummer Earl Palmer played on some of the orchestra's recordings. Miller was also responsible for owning Mobile Fidelity (Later Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs) that half-speed mastered recordings on LP making reissues of albums by select artists from several genres. MFSL continued to release recordings on CD, but the label went out of business in 1999. LP and CD recordings on the label are highly collectible. "The Wall" by Pink Floyd on MFSL CD has been known to go for over $200.
